Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer (Components) for a contract opportunity located in St. Joseph, Michigan
The Designer position is responsible for supporting technology development efforts through the development of new CAD models, performing tolerance analysis, and contributing to the selection of design approaches. In addition, the Designer will work with the Model Shop to create prototype parts, collaborate with suppliers and tool makers to optimize designs for fabrication, and participate in prototyping for testing.
75% Assist with the design and development of the following systems/components for the Omega Project, including concepting, prototyping, costing, and supplier selection/development.
Dispenser drawer - handle, drawer stop, bulk dispensing compatibility, and robustness/rigidity improvements
Coin vault - design and internal mounting components
Door - glass, possible changes to inner door, trim ring, handle, door screen, and hinge
Payment systems - coin drop mounting, debit card reader mounting, modularity to support PX models
Capacity reduction components - design and development of shipping bolts, front and rear spacer inserts, and performance testing of these parts
25% Availability for other Omega project work, including supporting other system designs, quality improvement projects, scoping activities, etc.
Primary and detail drawings of complex components and assemblies from design layouts, marked prints, sketches, and verbal instructions.
Assist in establishing basic project design objectives and the selection of design approaches.
Develop design concepts from verbal, written, or physical descriptions and/or specifications while applying Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly concepts. Includes completing design layouts of components, assemblies, and products.
Perform tolerance analysis and participate in responsibilities
Create and revise robust solid models design review activities.
Prepare Engineering Notices and structure bills of material for assemblies.
Participate in the construction of prototype parts and assemblies as well as other experimental and pre-production types of activities.
Work with internal and external tool makers, fabricators, and process partners to optimize designs and processes.
Manage Pro/E data within Windchill/PDMLink to promote completed work to Engineering Notice and Bill of Material systems.
Associate Degree in Mechanical Design or engineering degree.
