We're looking for a Sr. MySQL Database Administrator to help us manage and scale our data tier, as well at helping ensure its integrity and availability. Lookout deals with large volume and throughput of data, ranging from the petabytes of backed up user data, to our Mobile Threat Network, which helps us identify and block malware, plus all the other stuff that goes into supporting a large website. Not all of that data goes in MySQL, but it's at the core of most of our operations in one way or another. The role includes the development and design of database strategies, monitoring and improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements.

Responsibilities

Update and tune MySQL instances in a high volume environment

Performance analysis and optimization, from the micro to the macro level

Identify and recommend tools and services for managing database infrastructure

Refine mechanisms for database backup and restoration

Monitor system performance and respond to system outages

Improve methods for monitoring database capacity and usage, forecast for future use

Help develop application-specific fault-tolerant database mechanisms

Requirements

5+ years working with RDBMS in a high volume production environment

A minimum of 2+ years as a MYSQL DBA in a Linux for large-scale web environment (5.x with InnoDB)

Network and I/O performance tuning experience

Solid knowledge of physical and logical database design

Solid knowledge in schema design principles with demonstrated aptitude for building scalable designs and influencing developers

MySQL replication (Master-Master, Master-Slave, cluster replication) and sharding

Proficiency in a scripting language (Ruby preferred)

Expertise with configuration management systems such as Puppet or Chef

Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented environments

Stellar communication skills, able to work well with a smart, passionate and growing team

Bonus Points

Solid experience with LVM (Logical Volume Management) and snapshots, Nagios, Ganglia, Git

Experience using and developing a data warehousing/business intelligence system

Knowledgeable about security

Experience with NoSQL datastores including Redis, MongoDB, Hadoop, Riak, and Memcached

Expert knowledge of Linux internals and various file systems
