Database Administrators are part of the SAVVIS Hosting Engineering and Operations Organization located in Saint Louis, MO . Role of Engineers includes providing support to customer environments; participate in design and maintenance of data center infrastructure and customer environments or "sites" as part of a managed hosting solution. Daily responsibilities include providing escalation support for SAVVIS Hosting Operations Engineers and SAVVIS hosting customers.
DBA will be part of the dedicated team supporting high profile customer. Team is responsible for all the aspects of database administration and data modeling, code changes on production environments. He/she will be responsible for installation, implementation High availability DB environment and doing troubleshooting of highly critical production environment with 99.99% uptime. He/She will participate in database performance tuning and capacity planning practice. DBA will be working with Oracle 9i/10gRAC/11gRAC/DG on Linux/Solaris.
Position Objectives and responsibilities
Maintain 99.99% availability for all SAVVIS Hosting products and infrastructure
Interface with other teams to improve and implement process, procedures and automation
Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues
Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements
Provide 24 x 7 escalation support using a "Follow the Sun" type model OR Shift basis
Participating in oncall rotation schedule
Readiness to fill in odd time coverage when situation arise.
Implementing consistent standards across systems
Defining database configuration standards related to performance and sizing for both transactional and data warehouse databases
Knowledge sharing with other DBAs
Required skills
Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 10g and 11g environments
5+ years in Database Administration/support in Oracle RDBMS 8i/9i and10g in 24x7 production environment
Minimum 2 years of parallel experience in setting up and maintaining production Oracle RAC Env. 9i/10g/11g
Strong Database and RAC implementations experience and troubleshooting skills in mission critical Environment
Setting up and maintaining DataGuard on 9i/10g/11g env with MAA
Strong knowledge of Oracle Database Tuning and using stats pack
Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures
Strong knowledge of SQL/SQL*Plus and strong understanding of PL/SQL and stored procedures/pkgs
Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN and logical backups
Understanding of OEM and Oracle Grid for 10g/11g
Strong knowledge of Unix shell or Perl scripting languages
Good Knowledge of various generic business practices and process flow
Good knowledge of all the MS-Office Tools
Quick Learner and strong listening and communication skills
Strong communication skills and customer-support focused attitude
