Develop the structural packaging for new products and changes to existing products in order to meet new product introductions and/or production requirements. Identify and implement process improvements to maximize packaging consolidation and cost benefits. Coordinates and leads major packaging tests, transitions etc., with knowledge and expertise of various forms of packaging equipment.

Anticipates issues and recommends solutions when executing project work. Makes packaging development decisions. Generates ideas. Designs solutions for issues. Leads large projects and produces major cost savings.

Work with innovative suppliers to design and implement new product packaging (including changes to any existing products) with R&D, Sales & Marketing and Operations.

Develop and maintain product packaging specifications and design. Follow through with approved suppliers to assure components are within acceptable specification limits. Plus provides approval for drawings and initiates tooling requests.

Develops structural specs for more sophisticated packaging components that are run on automated equipment.

Actively works to identify and implement cost saving opportunities through joint process improvement, innovative supplier improvement ideas and new industry materials and concepts.

Consult with Plants and RPC Co-Packers on packaging quality issues as they arise. Trouble shoot for problematic packaging and packaging equipment issues.

Drive standardization and consistency of packaging among RPC Plants through optimization of product package formats, pallet patterns and processing equipment.

Works with supplier to develop tooling designs and requests tooling development.

Assures timely implementation of package development to meet new product introduction. Trouble shoots issues and provides solutions.

Drives company revenue growth by facilitating supplier innovation and new material availability in the product development process (e.g. Low Com and High Com)

Participates and/or leads various project teams throughout the organization; may be required to provide updates and presentations to procurement management and/or entire department. SME to sourcing group and actively participates on Sourcing team.

Interfaces frequently with various internal departments (e.g. Marketing, Procurement, Engineering, QA, Sales and Operations) and customers/suppliers in accomplishing project milestones.

What do I need to be considered a candidate?
Bachelors in Packaging Science or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in packaging development / engineering, preferably in the food industry

PC Skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database, SAP) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing

Knowledge of TOPS or CAPE packaging software, and Optiva specification systems, SAP

Experienced in computer aided design

Travels regularly (up to 15% of time)
