Panasonic Corporation of North America (PNA) is seeking a Senior Payroll
Accountant. The Senior Payroll Accountant conducts complex assignments
involving payroll accounting projects. The position requires a broad knowledge
of accounting practices and procedures, and a specialized knowledge of payroll
and payroll tax accounting. The Senior Payroll Accountant also provides training and guidance to less

1. Financial Data Management:
a. Prepare journal entries to record payroll activity
b. Record month end inter-company /divisional transactions relating to payroll
c. Review and approve coding of payments/invoices to third party vendors (ADP
print/garnishment/tax services, transit program, union dues, home./auto/pet
d. Prepare accruals and other adjusting entries
e. Identify and direct accounting treatment of payroll/tax/benefit
f. Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts (payroll and payroll tax
g. Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
h. Maintain accurate account and data reconciliation, including supporting
sub-ledgers, journals, and other financial documentation within a cost
2. Controls and Compliance
a. Ensure full compliance with Parent Company and PNA policies, internal
controls, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
b. Ensures protection of company assets in all areas through front line
knowledge and experience.
c. Conduct initial internal control evaluations.
d. Within the limits of delegated responsibility, approve certain transactions.
e. Investigate, resolve, and report to the accounting manager any
inconsistencies or improprieties.
f. Review and interpret payroll accounting policies and procedures
g. Manage payroll tax, funding, and general ledger recording process
(daily/weekly/quarterly/annual). Conduct periodic audits of employee tax
setups. Control amendment filings, and ensure that activity is properly
recorded on general ledger.
h. Manage monthly relocation gross up process
i. Manage annual W2 and W2c process, keeping abreast of annual changes to
payroll and payroll tax laws
j. Assist with state and federal payroll, payroll tax and escheat audits
a. Identify, research, and resolve payroll deduction/benefit/tax g/l account
b. Verify inter-company payroll assessments
c. Define and post reclass entries as needed
d. Review general ledger accounts and correct journal entries
e. Perform monthly balance sheet (payroll tax/deduction/benefit) variance
f. Perform accounting analyses, such as, but not limited to: Balance sheet
accounts, payroll tax, accruals, and department expense analyses.
g. Ensure that payroll tax amendment filings (W2c’s, etc) are recorded in
general ledger, ensuring resolution of open balances through follow up with
h. Prepare taxable wage analyses and other ad-hoc requests.
Supervise payroll accounting general ledger and tax function, including
planning and directing. Overtime required. Position will be in Newark, New
Education and Experience: Knowledgeable, organized, and detail oriented individual
with a BA/BS degree in Accounting, and 7 years of payroll accounting/payroll
tax experience. Knowledge of SAP & strong competencies in Excel essential.
Workday knowledge a plus. Willing to travel for training.
Problem-Solving: Fact-finding and analyses are critical parts of the job.
Analysis requires assembling facts and evidence from a variety of sources, both
internal and external, using considerable latitude in applying the proper
analytical methodology. Ability to create solutions by drawing on formal
education, work experience, and outside resources.
Communications: Provide frequent, and at times complex, explanation of
reconciliation findings to manager and to ADP Tax Service. Direct interface and
follow up with various jurisdictions required.
