The Senior Payroll Specialist administers assigned components of the payroll processing function to ensure the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the core payroll data including earnings, deductions, tax elections, and direct deposits data. To perform this job successfully, the selected individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Minimum 5 years directly related experience in payroll processing required.
Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills required.
Must possess practical knowledge of Payroll Accounting.
Must have proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and work experience with various payroll systems.
Export time information from our practice management program and enter/import payroll data into payroll system.
Communicate with HR on employee maintenance and benefit related deductions for HRIS.
Timely and accurately process semi-monthly payroll runs including review of supporting documentation for expense reimbursement.
Verify the proper coding of payroll input and post corrections and adjustments, as needed.
Communicate with team members in regards to discrepancies (i.e. miscoding, missing time record, etc.).
Prepare, process, and verify one-time deductions or special payroll runs.
Research and resolve problems in payroll records as queried by employees and/or management.
Prepare and distribute detailed payroll reports to practice groups as requested by management.
Responsible for electronic transfer of employee deferrals (401k, FSA) to appropriate vendors, including file creation.
Respond to questions regarding system issues, payroll checks, deductions, etc.
Interpret and understand Firm personnel policies and procedures, federal, state and local labor laws and apply such knowledge to ensure integrity of payroll.
Assist in development, implementation, and training of new or enhanced features to payroll/HRIS system.
Assist in processing team member paperwork for distributions from the Firm profit sharing plan.
Maintain the security of highly confidential personal employee data.
Perform other accounting duties and related tasks as assigned.
