The Compounding Technician Level II position is responsible for formula identification and selection. They must be able to handle all front intake functions as well as all compounding requirements. This position supports the Level I compounding technicians through guidance and coaching.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identification of raw drug product ingredients by manufacturer, national drug code (NDC) number and lot for inclusion in the compound all performed in accordance with quality assurance guidelines
  • Accurately weighs and prepares the ingredients according to the designated formula worksheet specifications
  • Ensures the pharmacist on duty has signed off and verified the formulation according to the script prior to commencing compound preparation
  • Accurately weighs and prepares the ingredients according to the designated formula worksheet specifications
  • In accordance with quality assurance guidelines, ensures accurate formula preparation according to the prescription prior to any compound preparation
  • Preparation of compounds according to the formulation while following all applicable and appropriate compounding guidelines and quality standards
  • Prepares various compounds including, but not limited to, suspensions, solutions, creams, ointments, suppositories, capsules, etc. This includes weighing and measuring chemicals in the mixing process.
  • Packages and labels the compound in an appropriate dispensing device
  • Ensures the correct beyond use date is noted on the patient product label
  • Totes the completed compound and documentation to designated area for pharmacist verification and sign off
  • Manages and orders supplies
  • Testing all sterile products as required by 795 & 797
  • Performs quality assurance on designated randomly sampled scripts and documents according to standards
  • Verifies all appropriate steps in each compound with the on-site pharmacist in charge
  • Has knowledge and access to all applicable websites such as PCCA & PK
  • Takes on special projects as assigned
  • Serves as a coach, trainer and mentor to Level I compounding technicians
  • Other duties as delegated
  • Maintain patients’ confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
  • Participates in training as necessary
  • Attends company/departmental meetings as well as educational programs as required
  • Fills in for the Compounding Supervisor when necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of all appropriate USP compounding guidelines including but not limited to < 795> and < 797> standards
  • Adherence to all USP compounding standards
  • Knowledge of Florida St. compounding pharmacy law
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards in conjunction with product verification
  • 5 hrs. of yearly continuing education in pharmacy compounding
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong oral and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong Customer Service focus
  • Ability to multitask
  • Annual training in HIPAA, OSHA, and pharmacy policies and procedures

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years with direct pharmacy compounding experience
  • High school diploma
  • Pharmacy Technician Licensure in good standing for the State of Florida required (CPhT)
