We currently have a career opportunity for a Senior Principal Engineer in our Materials and Processes Engineering Department at the Harbor Drive facility in San Diego.
The principal accountability of this Materials Engineer position is to provide materials and manufacturing processes support to the engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and customer services organizations for high temperature turbine alloys. Responsibilities include developing material solutions in support of existing and new gas turbine products, performing first article qualifications, managing material development programs and conducting failure analysis investigations. Related responsibilities include a technical focus on various materials processing techniques such as forging, investment casting, welding/brazing and component repair.
Bachelors Degree, Masters degree or above desirable, in Material Science, Metallurgy or Engineering related discipline
8-10 yrs experience with manufacturing processes (forging, investment casting, welding, etc.)
Strong background in physical metallurgy with emphasis on ferrous materials and all classes of Superalloys
Experience in failure analysis and in materials characterization techniques, including mechanical testing, optical microscopy and electron microscopy
Effective writing and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work productively in a cross-functional team setting with a multi-cultural staff
Experience in material life prediction techniques, management of material development programs, powder metallurgy, protective coating systems and Six-Sigma methodology is beneficial Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States.
