Summary: Translational Development at Celgene The role of Translational Development at Celgene is to provide fully integrated functions that bridges our discovery efforts and clinical development. To enable this, Translational Development will engage with discovery project teams to support target selection and disease area strategies, perform mechanistic laboratory research and provide scientific leadership for early clinical programs and support of marketed products.

Position Description: Lead translational research and clinical trial support activities to identify enrichment strategies, understand biological activity and mode of action of oncology therapeutics.Broad understanding of R&D processSignificant knowledge of cancer biology and hands-on expertise with in vitro and in vivo assays to study associated mechanisms of sensitivity and resistanceWill establish the experimental programs necessary to investigate key lines of scientific inquiry important to the business objectives of the organizationDirect Ph.D and non-Ph.D scientific staff of research scientists.Accountable for scientific strategy and timelines The position is responsible for leading basic mechanistic research and translational sciences activities for oncology project to support early stage clinical development.Leader of Translational Development subteamMember of cross-functional core project teamFunctional expert; acknowledged by global cross functional colleaguesScientific contact for interactions with external research collaboratorsContribution to clinical protocols, investigator brochures and regulatory documents Functional responsibilities include development and execution of project related translational science activities to enable decision making for patient stratification/identification and response criteria.Identify gaps, define risksPrepare strategic plan for predictive biomarkers Responsible for assisting in the development and/or identification of assays to use in clinical trials, management of execution of correlative science assays and data evaluation.Work closely with clinical scientists to develop clinical trial protocol, determine timepoints and tissues to be collected.Collaborate with TD Operations for identification of specialty laboratories, assay platforms and sample processing.Key activities will also include working closely with clinical investigators, identifying opportunities for translational medicine projects, delivering high quality presentations and acting as an internal resource. Qualifications: Ph.D in biological sciences with 10+ years experience in oncology drug development and translational scienceExpertise in cancer biology, including activated survival pathways, tumor microenvironment, cell cycle and mechanisms of resistanceExpertise in the integration of preclinical research and clinical drug developmentAbility to lead basic research programs as well as development and execution of clinical correlative science strategiesAble to assess risk and develop contingency plansManagement experience with the ability to set priorities, direct projects and implement complex strategiesHighly effective teamwork and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across numerous scientific disciplinesFamiliar with industry trends and competitors positionAble to communicate in both written and verbal format complex and detailed information in a manner that enhances understanding and ensures that the recipient will be able to apply the information presented.
