The Senior Privacy Counsel will be filling a new position for Interpublic Group. This role will provide legal advice and risk assessments in regard to privacy-related laws and regulations while developing and managing a strategic privacy program on an enterprise-wide (both business unit and regional) basis.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise regarding global privacy and data protection laws and regulations as well as privacy best practices and standards
  • Develop, manage and administer data protection policies, agreements, and programs for compliance with applicable laws, including EU Data Protection Directives
  • Develop and implement privacy standards and procedures in regard to partner, affiliate and vendor relationships
  • Coordinate privacy risk assessments and implement accompanying compliance recommendations
  • Remain current on privacy developments and best practices and report on emerging legislation/regulations in key worldwide markets
  • Develop and present educational materials to increase privacy awareness within the company
  • Liaise with privacy professionals at peer companies and industry organizations
  • Cost-effectively manage relationships with outside counsel on privacy related matters as needed
  • Provide creative, proactive solutions to difficult legal and business problems
  • Manage one privacy paralegal

Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school with over 5 years privacy-related experience
  • Training at a large law firm followed by in-house experience preferred
  • Advanced understanding of privacy- and data protection- related laws and regulations in the US (federal and state) and EU, including the political and regulatory environments influencing such laws; experience in additional jurisdictions a plus (e.g., Canada, APAC, LATAM)
  • Proven ability to develop, coordinate and manage multi-stakeholder processes across multiple business units/departments in a global business environment
  • Strong technological background and understanding of online and mobile advertising ecosystem and practices, including online data collection/tracking, software systems and data flows
  • Strategic thinker with excellent business judgment, able to understand overall business objectives while identifying trends and creating proactive solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation and negotiation skills
  • Team player, self-motivating, collaborative, and energetic
  • Member in good standing of the New York State Bar
  • Privacy Professional Certification (CIPP) preferred
