Coordinates, programs, analyzes, and evaluates clinical data; typically programs primarily using the SAS programming language. Performs responsibilities with minimal supervision of the programming manager or designees.

Develops, using SAS, computer programs which generate complex listings, tables (including those with descriptive and standard inferential statistics in collaboration with a statistician), and complex graphs

Develops, using SAS, computer programs to create very complex derived data sets (e.g., adverse events with multiple merging and cleaning procedures ) or perform any other advanced data manipulation

Develops, using SAS and other software if necessary, advanced computer programs to perform system tasks and macros/utilities to increase efficiency

Develops computer programs using SAS and/or performs the necessary manipulations to import complex external data into SAS or export SAS output to other computer files

May be required to assist in other programming tasks using software other than SAS to support data management or specialized data analysis requirements

Prepares documents describing SAS programs and databases for large projects

Performs quality control procedures on very complex SAS programs (with limited statistical procedures)

Mentors other programmers regarding processes, best practices and techniques

All other projects as assigned

Required Skills

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in statistics, science, engineering, math or computer programming, or equivalent combination of education and experience in directly related field

SAS Certification

Attentive to details and able to independently resolve a variety of issues without close supervision

Understanding and experience with MS-DOS, Windows (3.x, 95, 98 or NT)

Proficient in SQL and PL-SQL programming. Proficient in SAS programming, including base, FSP and macros

Understanding of SAS database structures and experience with at least one Database Management System (e.g. Oracle, Clintrials, Oracle Clinical, etc.)

Able to travel up to 10% overnight, as needed

Able to mentor (lead and develop) other programming staff

Minimum of 5 years experience programming with SAS in support of data management and/or biostatistics functions

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of statistics to program tables which include descriptive and standard inferential statistics

Demonstrated knowledge of data processing, database design and organization in clinical data environment

Demonstrated extensive knowledge of clinical trials, including design and principles of data analysis
