The role of the Senior Project Manager is to initiate, plan, execute, control and close larger more complex construction projects with multi-disciplinary or multi-party aspects where gross revenue typically exceeds $1,000,000. Holds primary responsibility for the completion of instruments of service including project reports and client memoranda and is the primary signatory. Develops internal and external client relationships and establishes mutual understanding for communication and problem resolution processes at the outset and throughout the duration of construction projects. Continually strives to understand the client’s ecosystem and works to understand client value. Effectively utilizes more advanced planning, organization, budgeting, scheduling and time management methods required for construction projects of large scale and complexity. Manages complex construction projects with multiple subcontractors, sub-disciplines and technically complex work scopes. Maximizes use of alternate pricing structures to maximize profit on construction projects, whenever possible. Uses Lean tools and integrated project delivery techniques to improve efficiency and maximize profitability of work performed under an alternative pricing structure. Provides leadership and facilitation to anticipate and work through difficult technical issues. Uses innovative thinking to develop and implement solutions for technically complex projects and uses experience and knowledge to proactively anticipate and address constructability issues. Integrates the necessary design, engineering and construction disciplines and possesses the skills and first-hand experience to lead some of the most complex construction projects. Broadly experienced with most construction techniques and methods and has established relationships and rapport with experienced and capable subcontractors. Moreover, the Senior Project Manager must identify and quantify potential project risks and plan for contingencies, in advance. Projects typically change through time; therefore, the Senior Project Manager must also successfully manage and integrate changes to scope, schedule, budget and quality. This involves assuring communication of the need for change with the client, in advance, and securing all necessary change orders before work is started, unless approved in advance by H&A senior management.

Requirements
• On projects executed at greater than $250,000 of gross revenue, manage the preparation of a Project Management Plan (PMP) that covers scope, schedule, costs, quality, communication and risk management.
• Execute a PMP – making changes to the PMP (a living document) as necessary if changes in any of the aforementioned are needed.
• Hold an internal Project Kick Off meeting covering deliverables, scope, schedule, budget, quality, health & safety, communications, risk management and roles/responsibilities.
• Secure project resources including H&A staff and subcontractors.
• Obtain an executed subcontract for each contractor, including required insurance certificates, before the contractor begins work on a project.
• Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel, with a focus of mentoring those with potential to become successful project managers.
• Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
• Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results and troubleshoot problem areas.
• Hold periodic team meetings, as appropriate, to monitor and control progress, identify issues and seek resolution.
• Coach, mentor and motivate project team members and contractors, and influence members to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
• Build, develop and grow business relationships vital to the success of the project.
• Assure communication of the need for change to the client and secure any necessary change orders before work is started within the change order, unless approved in advance by H&A senior management.
• Implement cost-based accounting on all projects and implement earned value management where appropriate (typically on all design and construction-related projects).
• Monitor and control all aspects of a project to achieve H&A’s business/profitability objectives and meet the client’s project objectives and deliverables under the contract.
• Monitor and control scope, schedule, costs and quality using appropriate tools
• Close projects by securing formal client acceptance of deliverables and holding a H&A team closure meeting to review costs, profits and lessons learned.
• Ensure that marketing materials are generated to highlight key project accomplishments.
• Actively prospect for and attempt to identify additional opportunities with clients at the project facility, at other client facilities, or with sister divisions or companies. This will often mean helping to cross-sell various H&A services outside the comfort zone of the Senior Project Manager, thereby requiring coordination with other content experts within H&A.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, with a degree in engineering or the sciences.
• Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in progressively responsible work, which includes management assistance on complex projects, preferably to include at least 7 years of successful experience on construction projects.
• Demonstrated understanding of project management processes and knowledge areas (reference PMI Body of Knowledge) and their application to managing construction or environmental consulting work.
• Complete H&A Basic Project Manager Training and attend update sessions as required.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and document project scope, schedules, budgets, quality requirements and resources needs for a variety of environmental projects.
• Demonstrated effective computer skills.
• Demonstrated thorough knowledge of safety rules and environmental regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in team situations requiring ability to develop and implement best management practices.
• Proven ability to achieve results with a minimum amount of direction.
• Demonstrated knowledge of contracts and their administration.
• Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and lead change in a diverse work environment.
Responsibilities
• Direct and manage project development from project initiation to closure.
• Define H&A project deliverables, scope, schedule, budget and quality objectives to meet H&A and client objectives.
• Prepare and present proposals to clients.
• Drive negotiation of proposals, including any necessary negotiations of terms and conditions.
• Obtain an executed contract from the client before any work begins on a project.
• Once a contract is executed, complete the project on scope, on schedule, on budget, and per established quality requirements.
• Before H&A staff are in the field, develop or oversee preparation and communication of a Health & Safety Plan per H&A requirements.
• Assure adherence to the Health and Safety Plan, including scheduling audits that are necessary under H&A Health & Safety
