NORC at the University of Chicago seeks an IT Manager to provide leadership and management for IT staff and projects in NORC’s Chicago, IL office. The manager will have direct line responsibility for a team of software engineers and business analysts and will be part of the overall IT leadership team at NORC. The IT Manager will also provide project management for complex software development projects based out of this office.
Responsibilities include functional management tasks such as resource allocation, personnel management, technical guidance and mentorship, conflict resolution and communication with senior management. In addition, this position will function in the role of a Sr. Project Manager, developing the IT project plan, and managing the project’s scope, schedule, resources, and budget; risk identification and mitigation planning and control, with hands on management of the IT team resources, tasks, and deliverables.
Incumbent works under limited supervision and is expected to take an active role in developing and enforcing departmental and organizational policies, standards, and procedures. The IT Manager is responsible for managing multiple project priorities. The IT Manager will also work with the office’s business owners on planning and preparing for new business and project work. Timely communication with stakeholders both inside and outside of IT is a critical dimension of this role.
Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred; 8+ years of overall IT experience, with at least 5 years of current hands-on project management experience, leading people and projects that require software development and configuration, database design, production deployment and support.
Candidates should have experience in IT functional management and/or application development team management; strong interpersonal skills; excellent ability to organize information and manage people and projects; excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience in formal project management and software delivery methodologies; intermediate to advanced skills with project management tools including Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. PMP Certification is a plus, as is previous hands on software development experience in a J2EE/.Net/SQLServer environment.
Experience working in a professional services setting and a matrixed organization environment is also a plus. Some travel may be required.
