Job Title: Senior Research Analyst

This job description provides a general guideline to the most common duties, responsibilities, and minimum requirements for this position. It is not all inclusive and the actual position may vary as circumstances indicate or as determined by the Association. Working hours are primarily a day shift position, but the Senior Research Analyst may need to work varied hours to include weekends, as business needs dictate with independent travel to local and distant sites.

Summary of Position:
Conducts primary and secondary research on assigned topics and summarizes findings in reports, articles and newsletters; possesses superior quantitative and qualitative analytical and research abilities; possesses strong writing and computer skills; writes reports and articles on economic/industry trends and restaurant issues; serves as an internal and external resource for research and analysis; works with external research suppliers for specific projects that need to be outsourced.

Principle Duties:

  • Works as part of Research and Knowledge team to accomplish Association goals.
  • Assists Chief Economist to accomplish departmental goals.
  • Conducts presentations on research to various industry constituencies.
  • Supports all internal team members and departments following the Association mission and values while promoting Association culture.
  • Conducts and monitors primary and secondary research on assigned topics and summarizes findings.
  • Provides informed responses to member, media, state association and staff inquiries on the Association’s consumer, economic and operations research.
  • Contributes to production of the Association’s restaurant industry forecast report.
  • Contributes to the drafting, fielding and analysis of the Association’s consumer and operator surveys.
  • Contributes to production of the Association’s Restaurant TrendMapper web site (www.restaurant.org/trendmapper).
  • Contributes to production of the Association’s restaurant industry operations report and multiple state and regional level operations reports.
  • Analyzes, writes and edits a variety of research reports and oversees production of camera- and Web-ready copy.
  • Oversees loading of departmental information and statistics to the Association’s Web site on a regular basis and ensures information is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Researches and writes timely articles for Research newsletters and the Association’s Website.
  • Solicits bids from research suppliers conducting research for the Association, and oversees their work.
  • Develops and expands computer spreadsheet databases to assist in research as needed.
  • Coordinates efforts of research assistants on various projects and publications.
  • Maintains up-to-date computer proficiency.
  • Keeps current on restaurant industry trends and issues.
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with information sources at government agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Duties:

  • Works on special projects and other duties as required helping to promote department’s success.

Position Specifications:

1. Essential Use of Following Tools:

2. Essential Training/Certifications:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree preferred in Economics, Business or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of practical research work experience preferred; restaurant industry experience helpful.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical and research abilities, strong writing and computer skills, as well as familiarity with government statistical sources.

Strong presentation and public speaking skills will be important in this role.
