Overview:

The Urban Institute is launching a new program of research on housing finance markets and policies, and seeks an experienced housing finance economist with broad knowledge of the mortgage market, experience working with large mortgage data bases, and expertise in mortgage modeling, including pre-payment and default estimation techniques.

Responsibilities:

As part of a team of researchers, assemble and manage mortgage data bases and design and conduct rigorous statistical analyses, including modeling of mortgages and housing markets. This work will include quick turn-around analyses of market conditions and policy options as well as more extended research on mortgage trends and development of modeling and forecasting tools. Urban Institute senior researchers apply findings from their work to inform public policy debate and decision making; disseminate findings and policy implications through reports, web products, media, and testimony; actively engage with policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to share research findings and refine research questions; raise funding from foundations and government agencies; supervise and mentor more junior scholars; effectively manage research tasks, staff, products, and budgets; participate actively in the intellectual life and leadership of the Urban Institute.

Qualifications:

A PhD in economics or related field and three to five years of experience in the field of housing finance, with specific experience working with large-scale mortgage data bases and mortgage modeling.
