Sr. Research Associate, Histology
Under occasional direction for routine tasks and moderate supervision for complex assignments, incumbent shall provide research and laboratory support in the histology core facility for the purpose of assessing tissue and medical device histopathology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive and organize in vivo and in vitro samples, using established centralized tracking system.
Process samples for frozen or paraffin sectioning using equipment such as a tissue processor, microtome, and cryostat.
Perform H&E staining of histological samples and employ other special staining methods as appropriate.
Perform immunohistochemistry, using fluorescence dye or enzymatic techniques.
Analyze samples using confocal microscopy, brightfield microscopy or high throughput digital scanning and process digital images for further review using Adobe Photoshop and/or other imaging software.
Perform histological assessments of tissue morphology, graft-host responses, and immunohistochemistry staining in consultation with supervisor.
For each in vivo and in vitro study that undergoes histological assessment, develop a presentation and/or report that generally includes background information about the experiment and/or its hypothesis, images, and a summary of findings.
Maintain laboratory equipment and an inventory of supplies and reagents for use in histology core facility.
Perform other duties as required of Senior Research Associates at this level.
Education and Work Experience:
A bachelorâ€™s degree and a minimum of five years of histology experience or a masterâ€™s degree and a minimum of two years of histology experience are required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job duties is acceptable.
Experience / Knowledge / Abilities:
Must possess experience, knowledge, and abilities necessary to perform the essential duties listed in the previous section and the responsibilities required at a minimum level of Senior Research Associate.
Experience with high throughput digital scanner, automated staining instrumentation for simple staining and immunohistochemistry is preferred.
Experience in analytical software, such as Image-Pro and/or Definiens Tissue Studio are helpful.
Experience working in a GLP/GMP compliant work environment is highly preferred.
Experience with cell culture or a general understanding of cell biology, developmental biology, and molecular biology is helpful.
Must be skilled in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications; proficiency in MS PowerPoint is required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
