Senior Research Manager

Research Director



Leads projects that deliver on our unique ability to use market research to have business impact. Works directly with clients. Creates, reviews, and edits survey instruments. Conducts analysis and drafts reports. This role is a line management position.


TECHNICAL RESEARCH SKILLS: Skills and competencies required to execute market research tasks and processes.

Manages the survey instrument development phase for a broad range of projects.

Analyzes data using computer applications such as SPSS Base or Dimensions - Reports for Surveys or from tabulated data.

Has an understanding of study design and execution for a broad range of research methodologies.

PROJECT AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Efficiently and effectively managing resources and people to achieve results.

Effectively leads multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting financial goals. Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities.

Directly supervises 2 to 4 employees. Responsibilities include training and mentoring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing regular performance feedback; developing subordinates' skills and encouraging growth, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Communicates directly with clients in ways that build rapport, trust, and customer satisfaction. Manages challenging client situations; Anticipates and responds promptly to client needs; Solicits client feedback to improve satisfaction.

LEADERSHIP: Envisioning desired outcomes and inspiring others to achieve them by acting in ways that enable high performance and foster relationships based on trust.

Demonstrated ability to connect with staff, assess their varying abilities and needs, and motivate them to achieve goals. Able to build morale and team commitment to goals and objectives; supports everyone's efforts to succeed; involves staff in planning and decision-making appropriately.

Recognize opportunities for improvement and take action to capitalize on them. Displays original thinking and creativity; fosters quality focus in others; improves processes, products and services, meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas.

Effectively contributes to analytic meetings throughout the research process. Understands market research study types and applications.

Has the ability to draw insights from analyzing tabs or other forms of research data to inform research objectives and answer business questions. Synthesizes complex or diverse information; uses intuition and experience to complement data;

Communicates (orally and in writing) using a clear and concise structure with clients and internal staff at all levels. Presents quantitative data effectively.


May be involved in contributing to or leading Business Unit or company-wide initiatives.

May facilitate training workshops. Provides one-on-one mentoring and coaching.


Education and/or Experience:
B.A. in related field such as Business, Economics, or Social Sciences. M.A. preferred.

At least 2 years of prior experience in market research, preferably with a supplier.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to manage individuals and teams contributing to multiple projects simultaneously and deliver quality results within budgets. Knowledge of team dynamics. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong leadership and management skills. Good business acumen.


Work Environment : Typical indoor office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental conditions.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. Frequent prolonged and intense concentration required.
