Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to lead and execute complete projects – with an emphasis on Biologic protein drug products. The main focus is on protein molecules as active pharmaceutical ingredients such as antibodies, enzymes, growth factors and bioactive peptides, and related biologics.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

This position will have responsibility for a complete function or specialty and would be expected to use the knowledge and skills to mentor / advise more junior team members.

This position will have the responsibility to design and execute experiments with minimal supervision or guidance

Plan, design and execute complete projects; providing imaginative and thorough solutions to a wide range of difficult assignments.

Contribute new ideas/concepts and present cogent research results to internal and external professionals. Maintain a level of scientific knowledge in assigned area; perform scientific literature searches and evaluations as required and understand/comply with accepted laboratory and safety procedures.

Understand and apply current technology and evaluate related investigations and information from the literature.

Present results of scientific research, development/assessment and handover activities, and be responsible for projects involving considerable research. Recognize work that can be distinguished for its intellectual properties.

Work closely with internal and external departments to ensure the efficient progress of projects.

Minimum Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or biotechnology is required with a minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical and / or biologics industry; or

A Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or biotechnology is required with a minimum of 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical and / or biologics industry.

A strong background in protein characterization, stability assessment and downstream purification is required. Demonstrated success in all aspects of enzymes, recombinant proteins and expression from a variety of sources (e.g. bacterial expression, insect cell expression) is required.

Experience with protein API production and downstream process is required for this position.

Abilities Required

Ability to operate standard biochemistry laboratory equipment such as HPLC, FPLC, microplate readers, fluorescence plate-readers, spectrophotometers and PCR. Be proficient with electrophoretic techniques including SDS-PAGE, Blotting, CE and zymography.

Ability to define problems, to collect data, to establish facts and to draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Familiar with FDA and ICH guidance for biologics quality control and the manufacture regulations.
