Advertised Summary Job Description

The Senior Research Worker will perform highly technical procedures in the histopathology laboratory. Duties will include but are not limited to tissue processing, embedding, routine and automated (to incude H&E, Frozen sections, IHC, IF, ISH ) staining, microtomy and coverslipping. Prepare tissue samples for storage, receptor analysis and/or special studies. S/he will perform general maintenance on the laboratory equipment in both the frozen section and the general histology laboratory while maintaining records in accordance with QC protocols. S/he will assist with trouble-shooting and resolving technicial issues related to the day-to-day operations, carry-out and maintain QA/QC as per established prolicy and procedure. The incumbent will be expected to work independently under minimal supervision and assist in cross training lower staff. S/he will also perform other duties necessary to the the functioning of the laboratory. THIS POSITION REQUIRES CANDIDATE TO WORK ON EVENING SHIFT AND PARTICIPATE IN MEDICAL SURVEILLACE PROGRAM. The candidate must be eligible or licensed to practice as a Clinical Laboratory or Histological technician/technologist in accordance to the New York State licensure requirement. The Candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test and background check prior to a final offer of employment being made.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Must have Master's Degree and at least three years experience, or Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related experience , or equivalent in education, training, and experience. Must have New York State Dept of Education technician/technologist license or be license eligible. The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made and must demonstrate excellent microtomy skill. MUST HAVE MICROTOMY SKILLS.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Computer skills required. MUST DEMONSTRATE EXCELLENT INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Abililty to work in an organized manner in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures. Must have experience with highly complex laboratory equipment and/or computer applications. Must be able to work independently and under limited supervision. Must have specialized theoretical understanding and practical experience in a particular area of research.

Preferred Qualifications

NYS Clinical laboratory License or NYS Histological Technician License. HT/ HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible.
