As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. The DBA will be responsible for infrastructure support of the Home Depot's SQL Server databases. Responsibilities include support of multiple mission critical retail applications providing performance tuning, enforcement of standards, support of high availability databases replication, mirroring, clustering, documentation, capacity planning & trending analysis, backup/recovery, and 24x7 production on-call support.
This role will be responsible for:
Assist team of SQL Server DBAs in leading technology challenges and the support of high number of production and lower lifecycle Instances.
Assist SQL Server DBAs in hardware capacity planning and database upgrades.
Provide SQL Server database administration/management and apply performance tuning techniques.
Provide technical troubleshooting for applications and database systems with emphasis on root cause analysis.
Write and maintain documentation describing changes and architecture modifications to all systems and databases.
Perform backups and data extracts as required.
Implement application related DML and DDL in production environment following Change Management guidelines.
Participate in the researching solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations/justifications to management.
Manage database related projects, design, implement and support moderate to large sized databases with minimal supervision.
Define and implement database backup/recovery and security strategies as well as other monitoring activities.
Mentor novice DBAs.
Partner with developers and Data Modelers to create database structures for business applications for all life cycles.
Provide advanced SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting.
Provide on-call support for assigned databases 24x7.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Create physical mid-sized database structures based on physical design for development, test, and production environments. Partner with DBA's and provide guidance on lower level projects.
Work with system engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and mid-sized database creation.
Configure and maintain DBMS product software on mid-sized database and application servers.
Provide guidance to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues, techniques and SQL review.
Provide on-call support for databases 7 X 24 to include being able to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve database problems.
Mentor and train other database administrators across lower level projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses
EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE -
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
5+ years of IT experience
3-5 years of SQL Server Database Administration
Experience in support of 24x7 production database environments
Ability to manage own time and complete assigned tasks on time with a high degree of quality and minimum supervision
Proficient in Transact SQL and performance tuning
Solid verbal and written communication skills
College degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience required.
Experience supporting SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012
Experience with SQL Server replication, mirroring, clustering, and log shipping. Always-On is a plus.
SQL Server MCTS and MCITP
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Working knowledge of the complete software development life cycle.
Proficient with operating systems software, networking tools, application development and multidimensional tools.
Working knowledge of relational databases, logical modeling, and data warehouse.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
