The purpose of this position is to provide and continually update the enterprise standards for server hardware, operation systems and performance management. Other responsibilities include backups, communications, storage, server platforms, hardware and software systems are monitored and maintained. This is accomplished by receiving and responding to requests for assistance, monitoring server systems, and researching system messages for potential problems. Other duties include providing technical assistance to staff and developing budget requirements for server equipment, operating systems and software. Must have demonstrated good experience with planning, design, implementing and managing a large Storage Area Network or Network Attached Storage. The ability to work flexible hours is required.
Studies and resolves technical issues and questions by collaborating with consultants and internal staff, researching issues and questions, troubleshooting and maintaining servers, analyzing requirements, assisting with design issues, and managing the infrastructure for all servers.
Trains internal staff by reviewing work flows, documenting information, providing guidance for other functional areas, and facilitating meetings and providing governance within the Server group.
Oversees budget development and monitoring by researching replacement and upgrade costs, hardware and software implementations, gathering requirements and reviewing expenditures throughout the year.
Oversees call out work by taking or coordinating calls for service.
Implement, configure and troubleshoot server operating systems, backups, applications, storage, and security access.
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
Decisions regarding implementation of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.
Receives Limited Direction: The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically.
Advanced: Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively, includes security applications.
Does research for budget documents; and compiles data for computer entry; enters or oversees data entry. Has responsibility for monitoring budget expenditures (typically non-discretionary expenditures) for a work unit of less than a department size, i.e. program, projects, or small organizational units.
Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Advanced - Ability to write editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
