Roles and Responsibilities

Must be able work as part of a team designing and building novel software capabilities

Must be able to work independently on research and development related tasking

Must be able to develop technical documentation in a clear, concise, and coherent manner for any audience from non-expert to highly technical

Must be able to lead small (3-4 person) and medium (5-8 person) sized teams to meet the expected goals without significant oversight

Must be able to accurately estimate task duration, monitor task execution, rapidly identify and mitigate threats, and ensure completion of assigned tasks within the established timeframe

Able to lead small to medium sized proposal teams and demonstrates experience developing technical approaches, milestones and tasking, schedules, staffing plans, and personnel descriptions

An understanding of federal contracting to include customers, types of research funded (6.1-6.7), TRL levels, and contract execution terminology

Must be well grounded in the foundational elements of computer security and/or system vulnerability analysis

Must have a record of accomplishment of specialized software development within computer security

Solid understanding of networking fundamentals

Comfortable using ping, nmap, tcpdump, iptables, and netcat

Hands-on software development experience under both Windows and UNIX based operating systems

Hands-on experience with C or C++

Understand what the virtual keyword means, understand inheritance, constructors and destructors, new and free, smart pointers, and design patterns

Must have experience with driver development under Windows or UNIX based operating systems

Preferred Skills

High level of motivation; self-starter; results driven

Able to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to complex problems

Comfortable developing new components, managing an existing code base, or integrating subsystems into systems

Actively contributes to career and skill development of junior engineers

Assumes responsibility for all project documentation, including monthly status reports, reviews, and final technical reports

Capable of briefing technologies and program areas both internally and to customers with minimal notice

Candidate remains on the forefront of existing research, generates novel concepts that target known customer needs, and develops corresponding white papers/proposals

Demonstrates a proven track record of proposal development and successful acquisition of funding

Specialization areas desired include, but are not limited to network data collection, host data collection, encryption, data collection from unique environments, vulnerability analysis, or hypervisor development

Solid understanding of network models such as TCP/IP and the OSI

Have contributed to large multi-file code base and can develop code without adding memory leaks or major application flaws

Working knowledge operating system internals

Hands-on experience with a scripting language such as Python, Perl, or Ruby

Hands-on debugging experience either with or without source code

Experience using revision control where you check in consistently, often with meaningful comments. You have used revert, merge, and can say with confidence that the last back port works

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Security Clearance Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Preferred - Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related program with 4 - 7 years of experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related program with 8 - 12 years experience; or PhD in related field with 2 - 5 years of experience; or 12 + years of job related experience
