Required Skills

You are a Web Application Developer with solid experience developing consumer-facing web products. You understand that advertising drives the free-content economy and are fascinated by creative advertising techniques. You believe that both advertiser and consumer objectives can be achieved at once, and you’re interested in developing a product that’s looking to find that sweet spot.

You’re well versed in Ruby and Rails application development and can cogently discuss the pros and cons of strict object oriented development in Rails. Perhaps you’ve dabbled in Java, .NET, Actionscript or PHP (but know they can’t hold a candle to Ruby). You’ve played with Amazon AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, etc.). You know that you can’t call yourself a web developer without the frontend HTML/CSS skills to go along with the backend application development.

You’re intensely passionate about good application architecture and have a favorite design pattern. You build gems to span projects. You prefer solid ORM over working directly in the DB, but can handle writing a complex join by hand in SQL. You know good automated testing is an integral part of application development. You contribute open source code to the community. You read books about programming and blog about web application development. You’re well versed in Agile development practices.

You will join the Active development team – a group of seasoned software engineers proficient in J2EE, .NET and Ruby on Rails technologies. You will be expected to add value to this team on day one with your experience, passion and technical expertise. You will work with the marketing innovation team to develop and implement creative ways to advertise on Active.com.

Most of all, you are a boundary pusher. You constructively question entrenched viewpoints, and you are a consumer advocate.
