The Senior Solution Architect will be responsible for leading the development of solutions across multiple research and IT projects for the GE Global Research Center, ensuring consistency and alignment to both GR Enterprise Architectures and supported technologies.

Essential Responsibilities
Develop architectures, reusable solutions, and designs tied to GE Research business strategies.

Analyze the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement.

Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.

Consult with application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture, and identify any architectural modifications to accommodate project needs.

Document all solution architecture design and analysis work.

The Sr. Solution Architect will:
  • Lead development of reusable solutions aligned to the GR business drivers of Innovation, Customer Focus, People & Culture, Simplification, and Compliance as well as published enterprise architectures.
  • Critically author comprehensive solution concepts, architectures and designs
  • Evangelize the architecture process, outcome, and governance process.
  • Work closely with the Program Management Office, and GR Enterprise Architects to ensure alignment of solutions to portfolio deliverables.
  • Engage as a key participant in research projects to deliver breakthrough IT solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging trends for potential integration into solutions and partner with research teams to explore the potential applications for these emerging technologies.
  • Provide Solution Architecture expertise to select development efforts and business function specific information architectures.

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information systems or a related field of study or at least 7 years of experience as an information technology professional.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements.
  • Proven ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, systems design/integration and problem solving skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics
  • MBA or Master’s Degree in an information management related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the following Information Technology Architecture Domains: Application, Middleware, Data, Compute, Network, Storage, Cloud, Big Data or Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Experience with Architecting Idempotent, Loosely Coupled Applications
  • Experience Architecting on Public Clouds (Such as AWS, Azure, Rackspace, etc).
  • Understanding of common information architecture frameworks and information models.
  • Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Ability to rapidly evaluate changing technologies and apply them to the business environment.
  • Six Sigma Blackbelt certification
  • TOGAF, Zachman or similar Enterprise Architecture Methodology experience/certification.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of IT professionals located in multiple sites, including proven effectiveness working with global teams.

  • Ability to communicate concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical sta
