The Senior Program Specialist is the front line Save the Children (SC) staff member providing technical and management assistance to partners to ensure the effective coordination, implementation and monitoring of school based programs such as literacy, nutrition and physical activity. Under the supervision of the National Director Programs & Partnerships, and supported by the National ECD and Education teams, the Senior Program Specialist oversees the implementation of the integrated programming of assigned partner sites. (The number of sites will vary by location and the levels of guidance and support required by partners depending on their respective needs.)
The Senior Program Specialist may be delegated to coordinate programs in district/cluster sites within the State and will be assigned to oversee new field projects as appropriate. Other regular responsibilities include managing relationships with assigned partner sites; lead partner planning; identify new partner sites and conduct site assessments; guiding new partners through the start-up process; providing training and technical assistance to partners to ensure high-quality programs; monitoring partner progress and performance to ensure that they are achieving program objectives. The position holder regularly consults with other support teams such as Education Specialists and sub-grant management teams to resolve complex issues and ensure compliance with sub-grant terms and conditions.
The Senior Program Specialist, School Based Programs, will play important role in contributing for the development of the Center for Health, Education and Protection. As the front line representative of Save the Children, the Senior Program Specialist represents Save the Children’s values and principles to both internal and external audiences.
Partner Planning and Relationship Management
Take lead role for the partner planning with assigned sites
Manage partner relationships
Observe and monitor partner progress and performance
Partner analysis and reporting
Training and Technical Assistance
Implement training and technical assistance programs based on the modules and methods provided by the Center
Visit sites when needed and provide professional development and support to partners and staff members
Monitor the appropriate implementation of the two components of the CHANGE Program:CATCH physical activity curriculum and a healthy snack according to SC's established standards
Sub-Grant and Operations Management
Coordinate partner planning budget with assigned sites
Orient partners on signed partner agreement
Upon receipt from USP Finance staff, review for appropirateness partner requests for funds,quarterly financial reports and budget revision requests and provide confirmatiom or questions to Finance and Sub-grants team for processing
Sponsorship Operations Support
New Site Start Up
Participate in the identificatio of new sites, work with team members to complete site assessments, and lead new site start-up procedures as needed.
Indirectly supervise the coordinators at assigned sites and ensure that they meet the performance standards and expectations
College Degree in Education, child development, physical activity or related discipline. Min of 5 years experience working as teacher or other programming specialist in a school environment. Elementary School age experience highly preferred.
