Job Summary:
Spirent Communications is seeking an outstanding Staff Engineer, User Experience Design who will be a core member of the User Experience team whose responsibility is to design our products user experience. Spirent’s Studio Performance product provides innovative purpose-built testing solutions that enable customers to ensure their applications and networks are scalable and secure. We are pioneering a differentiated testing approach that uses real traffic to test the ever-growing number of applications and devices on the network, mobile, and virtual and cloud environments. We are an innovative group that is focused on ease-of-use and leveraging user-centered design principals to surface powerful breakthrough technology.

This position requires a passion for creating exceptional customer experiences, as well as the right mix of creative thinking, technical know-how and superior writing skills. A deep understanding of UX principles and web technologies are essential. The ideal candidate will both design and maintain the user experience of our product as new features are added. This person will develop a content strategy, gather and produce content, and participate in the development process in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
Function as a customer advocate by understanding the end user's goals, anticipating usability problems, and designing simple, clean instructional workflows that help them succeed.
• Work closely with the user experience manager, product managers, and engineering subject matter experts to understand both the front-end UI and the underlying technology.
• Gather feature requirements and translate that into simple user-friendly product components.
• Create wireframe concepts that incorporate information architecture, content strategy, and contextual entry points within the application.
• Work as part of the Engineering Team in an Agile/Scrum environment throughout the design and implementation process.
Requirements:
5+ years in user experience design or web-based information architecture including the contribution to several successfully launched web or software applications.
• A demonstrable understanding user interface design principles and web standards.
• Ability to gather information and engineering documentation and convert that into a clear and simple user experience.
• Demonstrable fluency with Photoshop, Illustrator, OmniGraffle or other design tools.
• Solid knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of modern web browsers, UI frameworks, HTML5, CSS3 and scripting languages such as JavaScript.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to effectively articulate your design concepts and their impacts on the UX.
• Ability to use web analytics tools and customer feedback to iterate on data-driven UX design hypotheses.
• BS or MS in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction or equivalent design degree.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is a plus.
