The Senior System Engineer is a hands-on technical operations role responsible for designing, building, improving, and monitoring complex infrastructure, processes, and service providers used for internal business operations and customer solutions. In this role you will be responsible for customer interaction (technical and non-technical) consultation, design, collaboration, and presentation.

Essential Responsibilities
In addition you will:
  • Be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of standard / custom infrastructure configurations to specific program requirements including but not limited to; physical / virtual servers, database, scripting languages, desktops, routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
  • Implement and coordinate secure integrated operations within GE, third-party, and customer infrastructure through internal and external service providers
  • Execute site asset management and proactive monitoring of servers, telephony, network, applications, and associated compute resources using SNMP / MIB associated technologies
  • Respond to and provide timely reporting of incidents from initiation through remediation including; disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Be responsible for solution consistency across multiple programs, products, enhancement / change requests, and service providers
  • Develop large and small scale solution architectures, designs, use cases, tollgate documentation, technical service responses (Solution definition with cost, schedule, resource estimates), work scopes for in / outsourcing, integrated project management / schedules, cost tracking, and short / intermediate range plans linked to Engineering and Commercial forecasts
  • Ability to work with limited information to lead, create, and innovate based on proven technology and industry best practices
  • Partner with product managers, GE shared services organizations, suppliers, and associated team members to deliver to requirements
  • Operate with a cross-functional team of global IT professionals and subject matter experts in a matrix environment to establish complete business and functional requirements and translate those requirements into actionable project initiatives with associated controls
  • Ensure projects are executed within GE’s Project Management Methodology with process excellence, compliance, measurement, improvement, and control

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Linux / Windows, network, storage system builds, administration, and monitoring

    Desired Characteristics
  • Black Belt certification or equivalent Quality certification
  • In-Depth experience managing and supporting Cisco switches, routers, ASA’s and PIX’s as VPN endpoints, and firewalls
  • Experience working with F5’s GTMs and LTMs
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as; SQL, IIS, Exchange, and Clustering
  • In-Depth knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory domains, DNS, WINS, DHCP, File Sharing and Permissions, and Group Policies
  • In-Depth knowledge of VPN’s, Frame-Relay, Multi-Homed ISP’s, and internal / external Routing protocols
  • In-Depth knowledge of enterprise network technologies, VLAN’s, VTP, Spanning-Tree, STP, IP subnet addressing, routing protocols, and switch port-grouping
  • In-depth knowledge of SANs, including; replication, volume management, and installation / configuration
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Call Center, Unified Call Manager, and Cisco Unity Voice mail systems
  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure security, change management, problem resolution, and associated tools
  • Problem solver with strong critical thinking and decision-making ability
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced global environment with urgency, ownership, and accountability
