Passionate about Open Source, and love to work in the sort of environment where you can fit the best technology to the challenge? We are too! As a member of the WhitePages’ Ops team you will have real voice in what goes and what doesn’t go into production. You’ll be working with a small close knit team, to ensure over 40 million users a month can count on our top 40 ranked web site. Specifically we want you to do top quality design, engineering and support of high availability Ubuntu production and development systems environments. We have some big challenges ahead as we redesign our infrastructure, roll out a new abuse monitoring system, and integrate NoSQL and distributed data technologies like Cassandra and Hadoop. We promise to keep your scripting skills sharp, as you will be heavily involved in infrastructure automation using Chef, as well as build and configuration systems. You will also manage and improve virtualization infrastructure on open source and 3rd party platforms including Vsphere, Amazon Web Services, KVM and Openstack. WhitePages has been profitable every year since 2000 and are having our best year yet, so it's a great time to come shape the future of our Systems!

Qualifications We need top notch skills with Linux or UNIX systems and related protocols/software. It takes many Engineers 7 years to get to that point, but feel free to wow us with what you’ve learned in fewer. If you have a strong command of Linux kernel 2.6+ features including compiling, troubleshooting, memory management, tuning, I/O subsystem, hardware and software RAID, and security that’s the sort of experience we are talking about. We don’t need you to be a Ruby wiz with Chef just yet, though that would certainly help. If you can demonstrate strong programming aptitude in Ruby, Perl or Java we should talk. Likewise, if you have worked with other open source automation systems such as Puppet or CFEngine we are interested in learning more. Experience with designing and managing open source monitoring solutions such as Nagios, Zenoss, or Zabbix would be very handy. You’ll be working with open-source database systems such as PostgreSQL or MYSQL, so any previous experience will shorten the learning curve. Experience with Juniper and Cisco networking would also be preferred.

Additional Information We're headquartered in the heart of downtown Seattle, and that's where we work our magic. We've got sales folks across the country, including an office in New York. We have strong company values and a culture to match and would love to share why ours is an opportunity worth considering. We appreciate and respect diversity, and are an equal opportunity employer. And if you're a little bit quirky - you'll fit in just fine!
