The Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL) seeks a Senior Technical Specialist who will be responsible for planning and managing media distributions platforms in service of CCNMTL's mission. The Senior Technical Specialist will also manage workflows and automated media production and distribution. Reporting to the Lead Video Technical Specialist, responsibilities include:

  • Plans, implements, and manages various media distribution platforms including YouTube & iTunes U; participates in vendor programs and training; markets use of media platforms for teaching and learning; oversees media platforms operations.
  • Establishes needs and requirements for automated media production workflows to prepare media for encoding and distribution; helps oversee servers managing media distribution; establishes requirements and standards for embedded video players that work across computer and mobile devices.
  • Writes technical and user documentation; works closely with communications manager to leverage media services with existing social media efforts; provides internal training and develops workshops for faculty and others on the delivery of web-based media. Maintains effective online content supporting these services. Tracks usage of platforms.
  • Performs R&D while working closely with media team and developers to insure a modern media delivery environment for CCNMTL services and projects.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of three years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • Experience with a wide range of digital media technologies as well as traditional a/v technologies
  • Experience with software and hardware for video processing, editing, online distribution, and web technologies
  • Expertise in using media services including media platforms and vendor APIs
  • Strong background in web services and social media
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Extensive experience using Macs and Windows computers
  • Experience with digital asset management
  • Ability to present and teach courses on related topics
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both technologists and educators
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Unix
  • Previous experience administering media platforms such as YouTube and iTunes U
