The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Senior Technology Engagement Lead, in our Business Technology Department, who will be resident in our Reston, VA Office.
The BT Technology Solutions & Proposals team is responsible for conducting effective initial joint engagements in response to Business Partner inquiries and requests that may or may not be project related in nature. These requests may be based on ideas that vary in degrees of clarity, completeness or maturity and may take the form of very preliminary business inquiries about potential notions or concepts or solution options to address a business or product opportunity or challenge. These business inquiries may also take the form of a more defined point of view about solution ideas and may therefore require market scans, technology studies, option assessments and proof of Technology studies, and may require a formal or a rapid analysis to be conducted.
The Senior Engagement Lead is overall accountable for successfully designing, planning and leading all aspects of an initial joint engagement as part the BT Technology Solutions & Proposals team charter. This role will partner with the Business partners to define the engagement scope, plan and approach and mobilize the appropriate cross-discipline team from across BT in order to meet the Business goals and objectives gain understanding about business situations, elaborate on ideas, frame concepts, develop alternatives, options and concepts, and validate alternatives and options.
The Senior Engagement Lead will also present proposals and findings to facilitate the necessary next steps beyond the front-end phase of the lifecycle and ensure a “warm hand-off” and effective transition from the initial joint engagement phase to the next phase of lifecycle work. The results from the initial joint engagements may inform and lead to additional analysis or potential project work in terms of scope and content.
Engagement Strategy, Planning and Management
Provide thought leadership in developing engagement strategy in response to Business requests and inquiries.
Lead the planning, design and execution of initial joint engagements between business partners and BT and oversee all engagement activities details and their execution.
Lead overall business problem-solving sessions including business analysis.
Define and manage quality, scope, schedule, and budget requirements and raise key decision points and risks for resolution.
Accountable for developing an effective proposal that summarizes the findings, options, and proposed next steps.
Manage preparations for reviews and updates with corporate governance as required.
Ensure effective partnership with and “warm” transition to Delivery leads at the appropriate time.
Mobilize both dedicated and designated SME resources to conduct initial analysis & discovery and concept & alternatives engagements or rapid analysis.
Responsible for leading and managing the cross-discipline team in planning, designing and executing initial engagements or rapid analysis while ensuring overall team effectiveness.
Business Relationship Management
Manage the relationships with business sponsors, executives, business decision-makers, stakeholders, and end users during the initial engagement to make sure that expectations are managed and met.
Be the point of issue escalation and resolution for early joint Business/BT engagements and initiatives.
Provide effective updates, presentations and communications about analysis approach, findings, options and results with stakeholders and executive steering committees as required.
Ensure consistency in engagement execution while incorporating flexibility as appropriate by defining, developing and implementing the appropriate common approaches, processes, templates, tools and analytics.
Define best practices and continuously improve the initial engagement and rapid analysis process and service offerings.
College diploma or university degree required in the relevant field of business administration, computer science, accounting, or management information systems and at least seven years related work experience. MBA highly desirable. At least seven years of business and Information Technology leadership experience in general management consulting and/or IT consulting preferred.
Proven working knowledge of fundamental business matters and business analysis.
Practical working knowledge of broad Information Technology matters and understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC's).
Demonstrated leadership ability in leading diverse and cross-discipline teams comprised of diverse personnel, background and skills and competencies in scoping engagements (managing scope, time, cost, risk and quality) with high degree of ambiguity before the situation is fully known.
Broad leadership experience in applying blended Business and Technology knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of product and technology life-cycle activities.
Demonstrated executive presence and executive relationship management savvy from working in client partner management roles in the initial scoping and problem-solving phases of a potential engagement.
Experience in overseeing analysis and research analytics and techniques like business analysis, market scan, technology scan, technology solution option analysis, business process analysis and documentation, business and technology architecture, etc.
Demonstrated competency in critical thinking, with strong analytical bias and problem-solving skills.
Experience in leading executive workshops, team meeting facilitation and complex team problem-solving.
Strong organizational leadership savvy, task management and project management skills with keen attention to details.
Experience in overseeing use case development, scenario analysis, option development, evaluation and selection approaches.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and self- directed with excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize and oversee execution of tasks in a fast paced environment.
Skilled in leading and working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Solid knowledge about best practice in business and technical project management knowledge and experienced practices across the development lifecycle (initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing) and knowledge areas (project integration management, project scope management, project time management, project cost management, project quality management, project communications management, project risk management, and project sourcing management).
Comfortable with leading through ambiguity and seasoned in dealing and managing situations of uncertainty while possessing good judgment and critical thinking.
Knowledge and experience working with and managing consulting vendors.
