ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
As a Telecommunications Tech you will utilize your extensive knowledge to support network management in the areas of network monitoring, incident management performance metrics, and specified coordination functions. You will provide responsive quality customer service and support at all times, function as the customer’s single point-of-contact for problem escalation and resolution, monitor progress on problem resolution and initiates feedback to management and the customer, and perform customer follow-up to verify final resolution and determine satisfaction level.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Telecommunications Specialists test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, using network management systems and circuit diagrams. Analyzes telecommunication systems using structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot highly complex systems in a mission critical environment, identify root cause, action plans, and impact and resolution options. Maintain smooth operation of local area, worldwide and virtual private networks (VPN). Plan, evaluate, and coordinate installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Monitor system performance and provide security measures, troubleshooting and maintenance as needed. Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May prepare or ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. Restore nonworking lines and/or equipment to working condition. Maintain liaison with outside vendors and orders circuits and/or equipment as required. Identify all aspects of communications-related vulnerabilities, increases the customer’s awareness of potential vulnerabilities and impacts of communications on mission execution capability, and provides recommendations to mitigate or eliminate identified vulnerabilities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: Working knowledge of network topologies, routers and switches, and network protocols, experience in managing Juniper networks, experience with firewalls and networking security solutions Network/Systems monitoring, modeling/simulation and tools (e.g. SNMP, Spectrum, IBM Tivoli, HP Openview, OpNet) with protocol analyzers. Candidates with the following desired skills will be given preferential consideration: VOIP, MPLS network experience, IPV6, CCNA and/or CCNP Cisco certifications, JNCIE and/or JNCIP Juniper certifications.
This position is part of a 24x7 function and may involve shift work.
Position requires 4-7 years experience. Bachelor’s Degree required. Candidate must have a active Secret Clearance.
This position is contingent upon contract reward.
