RMT has the following position open in our Madison, Wisconsin office.
The Position – The Senior Transmission Design Engineer will provide management, leadership, and senior technical oversight over the design of high voltage transmission lines associated with renewable energy projects. The position will also provide project management and business development support for RMT’s renewable energy services. Ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in transmission line planning, design and construction; and possess strong leadership abilities to develop and manage a team-oriented, customer service driven Transmission Engineering team.
Requirements –
BS in Civil or related Engineering, and a minimum of 10 years of hands-on high voltage transmission line design experience
Demonstrated knowledge of transmission line design and applicable design standards, and experience developing design conditions, drawings, and component specifications.
Working knowledge of application of National Electrical Safety Code to transmission lines.
Working knowledge of conductor sag and tension calculations.
Working knowledge of structure and guying strength requirement calculations.
General knowledge of transmission line conductor selection and application.
General knowledge of transmission line rights-of-way appropriate uses, allowable ingress and egress, and appropriate structure and equipment placements.
Working knowledge of required permitting including highway permitting, railroad permitting, Corps of Engineering waterway permitting, pipeline permitting, environmental and wetland permitting, airport and aviation permitting, and other permitting.
General knowledge of soil types and conditions as related to structure placement and foundation requirements.
Knowledge of electric utility systems operation, maintenance and construction practices.
Working knowledge in one or more transmission line design software programs (e.g., PLS-CADD, POLE, and TOWER, foundation design analysis software such as L-PILE).
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Microstation desired.
Individuals must be proactive, strategic thinkers, with strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to satisfy clients and embrace change in a growing, fast-paced work environment.
