The position of Senior VMware Administrator has the responsibility of designing, maintaining, monitoring and managing the existing VMware virtual infrastructure. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems, maintaining documentation, creating infrastructure diagrams related to the virtual infrastructure, perform capacity planning and analysis, maintaining optimal up time of all virtual resources, and creating and patching virtual machines as needed.
Additionally these activities and responsibilities include an understanding of SAN infrastructures and technologies on both a theoretical and practical level and an understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 networks on a theoretical and practical level as they pertain to the virtual infrastructure.
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides administration to the virtual infrastructure in accordance with the respective OEM's best practices
Installation and configuration of virtual machines, templates, resource pools, virtual NICs and networks, data stores and cluster groups
Creates and maintains documentation of virtual infrastructure, operational procedures, topology, and hardware / software inventory
Formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards related to virtual infrastructure
Propose and implement enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the virtual infrastructure
Proactively monitor systems and alerts, using industry recognized tools to avert troublesome trends as they develop to ensure a stable production environment
Provide reports and metrics as needed to support engineering requirements analysis and growth planning
Work with network and security teams to ensure proper security measures and mechanisms are in place within the virtual infrastructure
Maintains asset records as required by the organization's asset management process
Assume role as the subject matter expert on enterprise virtualization technologies
Participates in the organization's change management process
Documents problem resolutions into the appropriate systems
Design and implement the patch management process for the virtual infrastructure
Ensure antivirus is up to date and maintained on all virtual machines
Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves system and user problems
Plans, organizes and coordinates work assignments and prioritizes workload
Plan and implement system changes and adjustments in a way that maximizes system availability
Rapidly deploys approved fixes to virtual infrastructure in response to newly identified stability and security threats
Participates in compliance activities that include log collection, analysis and reporting
Provide 24x7 on-call systems support
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED:
4 year degree in related field or equivalent education / experience to successfully complete the assigned duties
5 - 7 years' experience administering an ESXi 4.0 or greater environment
5 - 7 years' experience administering a WINTEL server environment
3 or more years experience in technical lead role to IT projects
Experience administering and optimizing VMware ESXi in a corporate data center environment while supporting 100+ virtual servers
Experience in optimizing VMware ESXi for utilization of SAN storage
Experience in designing virtual infrastructure to scale to company demands
Experience in designing and administering VMware Site Recovery Manager
Experience in power CLI and vSphere CLI automation scripting
Experience in designing, implementing and administering VMware disaster recovery solutions
Experience in DR, BC, and Contingency planning
Must be able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance.
US Citizenship Required
PREFERRED:
Knowledge and understanding of ITIL concepts such as Service Desk, Incident Management and Change Management
Manufacturing Industry experience
Nexus 1000v experience
NetApp SAN and Storage experience
Current VCP certification
