This position is responsible for the direct supervision of assigned detention officers and for the custody and discipline of detainees in the facility in compliance with MTC, Otero County and the United States Marshal Services directives. Among other duties, this position will:

- Serve Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assigned employees. –

Responsible for the care, custody and adherence to rules and regulations of detainees assigned to specific work area. –

Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security. –

Perform specific security functions including ‘pat’ and ‘strip’ searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions. –

Transfer and transport detainees by walking or riding in vehicles. Restrain and secure assaultive detainees, as needed. –

Supervise and provide custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees and detainees assigned to work duty. –

Read, review and properly apply information found in detainee records, which is related to the detainees’ health and safety and to the security of the facility. Provide appropriate information to other personnel. –

Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms and reports. –

Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: unit, administration segregation and intake. –

Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices. –

Assist the lieutenant in performing specific duties as assigned by shift supervisor. –

Respond to emergencies to search for detainees, administer first aid at the emergency site, carry an injured or unconscious offender, and perform use of force procedures, including the use of chemical agents to control detainees. –

Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when appropriate behaviors are observed.

External requirements

In this position you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also have two (2) years of experience in an adult correctional environment or a related field. A valid driver's license in the State of New Mexico or the State of Texas, with an acceptable driving record, is required unless it is waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
