JOB SUMMARY:

Drives the service truck to perform on-site minor/moderate truck, container, and trailer repairs. Makes good value decisions following established guidelines. Completes routine repair work in the areas of tire changing, minor/moderate engine, electrical, hydraulic, and accident repairs including utilizing our maintenance software to track the work performed.

Detailed Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Using a Schneider National Service Truck, drives to multiple locations (where applicable) or may be dispatched to a primary location to perform work on Schneider equipment.

2. Performs repairs on containers, trailers and tractors and completes Planned Maintenance (PMs), annual inspections and minor repairs on door seals, hardware, minor/moderate electrical, brakes, mud flaps, routine Qualcomm repairs, blower motors, and minor body work. Reads paper or electronic instructions to understand, document and close work orders to be completed.

3. Inspects components including: loose tie rod ends, kingpins, wheel bearing, hood adjustment, and air ride height etc.

4. Utilizes computer system (M5 and internet) to accurately create, track, and complete work order repairs including the tracking of time (labor hours), identifying parts needed, charging out parts used, work completed and locate technical information on the Schneider Intranet or vendor web sites.

5. Communicates with internal customers (i.e. other shop associates, drivers, Driver Business Leaders, other maintenance shops) on such things as repair stances, wait times, reasons for repair decisions and status updates.

6. Utilizes company vehicle to unload, stock, and pick up parts at local Schneider shop, vendors, and dealers/suppliers.

7. Safely works outdoors in drop lots or on rail ramps.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have a valid Class B CDL (commercial drivers license)

2. Strong mechanical aptitude. (i.e.: Must be able to certify as a brake inspector.)

3. The ability to work autonomously and be self directed

4. Skill with windows based computer systems

5. Technical reading aptitude (i.e. electronic service bulletins; auto repair manuals).

6. Excellent customer service, oral and written communication

7. Basic welding skills.

8. Ability to provide own basic hand tools. (The Shop Manager or Shop Supervisor will cover required tools.)

9. Must become a certified Brake Inspector and Annual Vehicle Inspector (only after associate meets DOT requirements) within 6 months of being hired as a Service Truck mechanic

10. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and have the ability to read and understand English
