The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for a Compliance Officer position in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division, Sex Offender Investigative Unit. This position is responsible for the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Botetourt, and Craig.
DUTIES: Conducts and completes assigned home and employment verifications. Updates the Sex Offender Verification System prior to due dates listed in the system. Notifies sworn Sex Offender Investigative Unit (SOIU) personnel of any identified violations of sex offender registration laws. Files required reports and forms. Provides court testimony in accordance with training, laws, policies, and procedures. Presents cases in court in a professional manner. Promotes good public relations, a cooperative work environment, and increases public awareness by presentation or participation in public awareness projects. Maintains all issued items in a satisfactory condition. Successfully completes all required re-certifications. Conducts community-based contacts consistent with supervision instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends. Working knowledge of statutes governing the registration requirements of convicted sex offenders in Virginia. Demonstrated knowledge of judicial proceedings, case management, and the parole process. Demonstrated skill in operating a computer to include Microsoft software applications. Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to maintain working relationships with supervisors and the public; to make independent decisions by applying policy, rules, and regulations; to work independently, follow instructions, and pay close attention to details; and to identify community resources. High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position required. Must possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
