Provides administration (as part of a team) for a globally distributed SharePoint environment including related components (FAST, K2, various customizations). Evaluates and installs new software releases/patches. Monitors SharePoint and the whole ecosystem. Identifies opportunities for improvement in reliability, availability and performance. Implements and deploys solutions. Provides 2nd line end user support for complex matters. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.


As part of a team; (Including, but not limited to, the following)
• Provide system administration and monitor the overall SharePoint farm health and functionality
• Conduct SharePoint operations tasks including backup/restore SharePoint site/site collection
• Carry out on call duty and weekend coverage on rotational bases
• Configure SharePoint features and functionality using Central Administration and PowerShell
• Implement and deploy SharePoint based solutions (customization or solution packages)
• Deploy SharePoint change process through Dev to QA to Prod
• Setting up monitoring alerts and policy enforcement; respond and resolve alerts
• Monitor performance and make appropriate tuning changes to achieve optimal performance
• Provide operation metrics/reports, including disk space usage, server performance, activities etc
• Provide second-level and third-level SharePoint technical support and troubleshoots issues
• Resolve technical issues independently, with a team, or with Microsoft support engineers
• Create and maintain detailed documentation and technical drawings
• Work with project team to provide task estimates and discuss technical options
• Participate in projects to test, pilot and implement new SharePoint software releases including 3rd party add-ons
• Evaluate and install new SharePoint software releases/patches
• Work with the Search team to administer SharePoint Search and FAST
• Participate on cross-functional teams to promote/support SharePoint across the company
• Other duties and functions may be assigned


• 5+ years of experience working in an engineering or IT organization
• 5+ years of experience supporting SharePoint systems; at least 2 year with 2010
• In-depth knowledge of the SharePoint 2010 system/server administration and landscape
• Working knowledge of the underlying technologies such as IIS, Load Balancing, SQL Server, Windows Server and PowerShell etc
• Preferred but not essential, general knowledge of Active Directory, ASP .Net, FAST Search 2010
• Preferred but not essential, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification and/or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification for SharePoint 2010


• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or computer science or similar discipline


• SharePoint working knowledge of Central Administration, STSADM, and the PowerShell administration modules
• Basic Windows server operation and administration
• General knowledge of networking – IP, DNS, Load Balancing
• General concepts of availability, scalability, and maintainability
• Understanding of firewalls, encryption and security zones
• General knowledge of Internet Information Server (IIS) and the basic operation of websites, Application Pools, IIS Administration, the IIS Metabase, Ports, SSL Certificates (security certificates and wildcard certificates), Kerberos and NTLM
• General knowledge of Windows SQL Server operation, tuning, transaction log selection, backup and recovery, and maintenance planning
• Event Log troubleshooting (Windows event log, IIS logs and the ULS), search administration and troubleshooting, concepts of a farm and the planning and implementation of Service Packs and Cumulative Updates
• Debugging skills and techniques for each of these areas identified above
