DoITT provides for the sustained, efficient and effective delivery of IT services, infrastructure and telecommunications to enhance service delivery to New York City's residents, businesses, employees and visitors. As the City's technology leader, DoITT is responsible for maintaining the foundational IT infrastructure and systems that touch every aspect of City life from public safety to human services, from education to economic development crossing the full spectrum of governmental operations.
The successful candidate will serve as a SharePoint Engineer reporting to the IT Services division. Responsibilities will include: Design and implement the creation of SharePoint infrastructure and components as dictated by projects and initiatives; develop and maintain documentation as it pertains to policies, procedures, standards, and governance surrounding the SharePoint offering; answer technical and procedural questions for team members; teach improved processes; mentor team members; manage customer relationships by communicating SharePoint architecture standards and frameworks; resolve concerns and issues; assess technical infrastructure to ensure offerings can be met and to anticipate future needs; liaise with non-technical staff to ensure understanding of the SharePoint offering as it pertains to capabilities, policies with business owners, Agency Relationship Managers, Project Managers, etc; respond to incidents and requests involving existing SharePoint offerings via BMC Remedy; maintain the hosted SharePoint 2003, 2007, and 2010 infrastructure systems, as it pertains to server health checks, system background jobs, interfaces with outside agencies and systems, installation of base software, configuration of architectural components, and job management and issue remediation; create and maintain Sites and Site Collections, as well as all associated databases and services, such as Shared Service Providers, and Extended Authentication providers; establish and maintain end user access policy and permissions; implement and maintain search services, including defining search scopes; installation and maintenance of any plug-in, feature, web part, template or solution, including 3rd party software or applications; set-up and configure Excel Services and InfoPath services; set-up and maintain outgoing and incoming e-mail services; support back-up and recovery practices and maintain integrity and reliability of access to information; and perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qual Requirements
(1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and one (1) year of satisfactory fulltime computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, systems programming or data communications; or
(2) A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five (5) years of full-time satisfactory computer software experience as described in “1” above; or
(3) A satisfactory combination of education and experience that is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in "2" above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty-four (24) semester credits from an accredited college or graduate school in computer science or a related field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience. However, all candidates who attempt to qualify under option “3” must have at least a four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in “1” above.
To receive credit, all college credits in computer science or a related computer field and/or the certificate in computer programming must be listed in Section A.6 on page 2 of the Education and Experience Test Paper.
Some examples of unacceptable experience are: End users of a computer system, program or software package; experience in the areas of computer technical support, computer operations; data entry/data retrieval; pure quality assurance (QA) auditing and
analysis; hardware installation; help desk; teaching; telecommunications; experience in productivity software products (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software, etc.); superficial use of preprogrammed software without
complex programming, design and implementation.
The preferred candidate should possess the following: A bachelor's degree in a related IT field; working knowledge of SharePoint 2003, 2007 and 2010; exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of server and application architectures; ability to work in cross functional teams; excellent attention to detail; candidate should be highly self-motivated and flexible; strong customer and quality-focus; sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills; demonstrated experience working with technical and non-technical staff; outstanding collaboration and team building skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines; Microsoft certification in SharePoint 2007 or 2010 a plus.
