Amtrak is recruiting candidates for the position of Sheet Metal Workers HVAC for our Mechanical facility in Chicago, IL.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for all metal fabrication welding troubleshooting and wreck repair on locomotives, cars pipes, and radiator units in accordance with FRA/Amtrak standards and guidelines. Utilizes and maintains qualification in oxygen acetylene, Tig, Stick, Mig welding, presses cutting torches, air impact gun, grinder and other hand tools in performance of duties. Responsible for troubleshooting leaks and fabricating pressure testing devices. Inspects repairs, rebuilds and installs pipes and hoses as necessary. Responsible for inspection and replacement of hydraulic filters valve, gas lines, water, sewer, pipes, pumps, heating and water lines and pressure switches as needed. Works within the guidelines of Amtrak's System Safety Program.
Must have experience in test equipment/system specifications repairs, and the ability to read and interpret schematics and schematics and blue prints. Must be capable of working from layouts of print and sketches to perform all electrical and/or acetylene welding, brazes, and solders as required. Maintain thorough knowledge and skill in the use of specialized tools, equipment and the measurements necessary to meet established standards. General housekeeping duties require awareness of Asbestos, PFT, PCB Certification, AMTn2, Blue Signal Lock-out/Tag-out and HAZCOM. Experience in sanding/soldering brazing and hydraulic equipment operation systems. Must be able to safely operate a work crane and other heavy machinery. reliable attendance and timeliness in reporting to work.
Welder/Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker/Pipefitter qualifications preferred. Environment subject to seniority rights but can include shop, field, train or yard locations with moderate to high noise levels, lighting of various degrees, floors of carpet/metal and various head/cold conditions. Will be required to bend, stoop, stand and climb in performing daily task and activities. Must be able to work safely around loose materials, uneven surfaces and metal plates and equipment Must have visual acuity and hearing capability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job unless other vision or hearing standards are required by law. Must be able to lift, carry push or pull loads in accordance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED . Welder/journeyman Sheet Metal Worker /Pipefitter qualifications.
