Non-exempt; part-time; no-benefits; position is subject to system-wide reassignment
  • Position available at Brunswick Community Library ; working 8 hours per week; this is a year-round position primarily assigned to cover Saturday / Sunday hours and weekday evening hours during FCPL operating schedule
This position is responsible for sorting, shelving and retrieving library materials, and for assisting with maintaining the orderliness of the assigned library branch. Supervision is received from the Branch Manager or the Shelving Supervisor .

Examples of Work:
  • Sort and shelve library materials; verify correct order and placement
  • Empty the book drop
  • Retrieve items that are placed on hold
  • Remove search list materials and shift collection, as needed
  • Maintain orderliness in library collection
  • Assist with clerical duties in other departments, (i.e. check in books, scan and delete items, check item circulation records)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Minimum age 16 years (due to the required working schedule)
  • Tenth grade education completed
  • Computer experience or training with the ability to effectively learn, access and utilize the FCPL computerized information systems and circulation system
  • Strong and effective written/spoken (English) communication skills
  • Effective clerical skills including demonstrated ability to work with alphabetical and numerical systems including decimals
  • Ability to accurately follow directions and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively organize work and multi task with attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to new tasks or changes in assignments or procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry library materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds; to push and pull loaded book carts over long distances, requiring approximately 50 pounds of pressure (not weight); and to stand, walk, bend and stoop for the majority of assigned shift

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
  • Library experience (paid, volunteer or internships acceptable)
  • Minimum 3 months clerical work experience
  • Minimum 3 months experience (work or volunteer) performing numerical functions (i.e. cashier, inventory, wait staff, etc.)

Additional Information/Examination Process:
  • Available for varied workdays and hours within the FCPL operating schedule
  • Shelver is eligible for increase to $7.47 per hour after 6 months of satisfactory service
