Job Title: Shipping Clerk

Shift: 3rd

Grade: 101

Job Summary: Provide advanced administrative support to a function or area. Process a variety of business correspondence and forms, and operate standard office equipment to provide support and service to specific functional area.

Essential Duties:

  • Composes, types, and organizes data.
  • Creates documents and presentations from source material.
  • Performs data entry and retrieval to meet requests.
  • Utilizes a variety of means to collect information relative to a specific issue.
  • Operates multiple mainframe and PC applications to generate reports and information.
  • Uses standards and procedures to ensure documentation for processes meets standards.
  • Checks work orders or other documents to ensure compliance with operating and regulatory requirements.
  • Makes entries into ledgers, journals, and other records.
  • Sets up and maintains complex file systems and records to support a function.
  • Solves problems which require gathering and analyzing basic data and information.
  • Applies standard processes to the resolution of moderately complex issues.
  • Tracks budgets and other financial data; assigns charges to accounts, prepares documents to pay bills, orders supplies and other equipment as needed.
  • Investigates and analyzes information; solves problems and resolves issues using facts, written policies, procedures, or specifications.
  • Schedules and participates in meetings and other activities.
  • Coordinates meetings or events involving a number of participants.
  • Understands the operation of the area and the requirements of the support function.
  • Provides expertise within an administrative area supporting a defined function for the site.
  • Establishes procedures to standardize work processes and implement decisions.
  • Manages own time to complete assignments within established parameters.
  • May choose course of action from a number of options.
  • Seeks advice and counsel for more complex tasks.
  • Operates from general goals and instructions.
  • Serves on and may lead task teams and problem solving/ process improvement teams as required.
  • Operates independently within established parameters; supervision is available for difficult tasks.
  • Goals are clearly defined and process may be established.
  • Operates independently within the bounds of the position.
  • Coordinates activities with others within the work group and site.
  • May operate in an environment of constant interruptions, or with high volume work loads.

  • May have regular contacts with people outside of the division to provide information and service and to respond to requests for information.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by Management
  • Job Specifications:
    • HS diploma or GED, plus knowledge of standard procedures relevant to the assigned function.
    • Typing, data entry, basic math and English skills required.
    • Typically gained through a minimum of 12 months of general business experience and 6-12 months functionally relevant experience.
    Skills And Abilities:
    • Ability to type, perform data entry, and use basic English skills is required.
    • Ability to use basic math skills is required.
    • Knowledge and experience operating in the functional area, typically acquired through 2-4 years of both general office experience as well as experience in the specific function supported
    Working Climate:

    Position is primarily sedentary, performing work in an office environment. May be periodically asked to bend, kneel, stoop, and carry loads up to 25 pounds.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
