Overview:
Powers Fasteners, a division of Stanley Black & Decker, is seeking a full-time Shipping Clerk for our Distribution Center located at Powers US Headquarters in Brewster, NY. This position is responsible for processing (receiving, picking, packing, and shipping) of sales orders for the Distribution and Production Center (DPC) and meeting shipping deadlines to ensure optimal customer service. This position will work closely with the other Shippers & Receivers, Customer Service, Inventory Control, Freight Carriers, and Procurement teams for optimal effectiveness.

Shift: We are hiring for the 2 pm - 10:30 pm shift and the 10:30 am - 7 pm shift.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Preparing items for delivery including acquiring signatures, maintaining records, updating the database and monitoring the movement and use of property. 2. Inspect, classify and stock new inventory and prepare a material inspection receiving report for the items received. 3. Responsible for unique customer defined shipping requirements and deadlines. This includes working with contracted fright carriers to ensure accurate, on-time delivery of orders. 4. Prepare and report discrepancy incidents of shipment to the procurement activity. Establish and coordinate claim actions against carriers. 5. Comply with EH&S regulations 6. Perform project work assigned by Manager, and continually monitor material processes for improvement. 7. Operate UPS manifest systems and computer program to prepare shipping label and update orders for invoicing. Obtain necessary information (i.e. destination address, weight, number of cartons/boxes, date, method of shipment, bill of lading, price, etc.) from Sales Order. 8. Assist in the verification and physical inventory process, including cycle counts. 9. Perform duties and responsibilities as described in the quality system. 10. Perform other duties as assigned by management in support of departmental goals.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Skills or experience with personal computers, including electronic E-mail, personal scheduling, word processing and electronic spreadsheet skills. • Working knowledge of computer systems preferred. • Must be detail oriented. • Ability to meet firm deadlines. • Knowledge of shipping regulations preferred. • Organizational and time management skills required. • Ability to be flexible and work as a team member required. • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend basic English. • Must have basic math skills.
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent work experience required.

1-year warehouse/shipping experience required.

Functional Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use of hands to finger, handle, and feel. • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance. • Must also be able to verbally communicate via telephone. • Must have the ability to lift up to 60 pounds on a regular basis. • Must be able to manipulate a computer keyboard. • Must be able to work beyond standard work hours as the need arises.
