To direct the shop operations to meet established shop department goals. Owns and sets the overall direction for the shop department with overall responsibility for performance, safety and job execution. Support the strategic direction of the shop organization and the division. Demonstrate leadership, integrity, teamwork, quality and urgency in the performance of one’s functions and responsibilities to ensure the goals of customer satisfaction, market dominance and profitability are achieved.
The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of multiple shop projects including Project Management, Job Execution, and Safety. The incumbent is involved in safety, project documentation, quoting, resource planning, capital equipment suggestions, and customer interface with ongoing projects. Reporting to this position are the various levels of shop supervisors. The major focus of this position is strategic and may be one of sponsor for creativity in key process development and change, as well as accomplishing results through others from multiple divisions and functions.
Respond to client or customer requests for service in a timely manner.
Review and present monthly project reports.
Interact with Engineering group to source required technical information.
Position ensures effective job execution to meet established cost and duration schedules are met while maintaining high quality of workmanship minimizing rework.
Position ensures proper direction and supervision of activities in assigned area to maintain effective utilization of personnel and machinery.
Determines needs and coordinates actions required to maintain standards of efficiency, quality and safety in shop areas.
Position promotes development of people through continued education, employee involvement, increased responsibility and ergonomics. Trains new leads to become supervisors and sets goals and assists team in meeting quality goals/standards.
Position should have good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations.
Participate in the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated.
Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with Supervisors, Team Leads and Team Members.
Position participates in root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, production.
Position will perform periodic audits for safety behavior, quality, standard work, and productivity of field team members.
Position will coordinate material, equipment, manpower, safety, risk mitigation and quality with this position as well as meeting customer requirements. Work direction, problem solving and coordination with other departments is a major responsibility.
Position will adhere to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, work execution, safety, MSHA regulation in performing assigned duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Position requires a thorough knowledge of removal and repair of components of large mining equipment. Strong welding, mechanical, and machining aptitude required. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
Preferred five to seven years of Caterpillar Dealer experience or maintenance repair in similar work environment.
Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in repairing large mining equipment preferred. Skills in project management, strategic planning, business planning and customer relations are needed. Excellent human relations and communications skills are necessary.

1. Walk, sit and/or stand 8 - 12 hours a day.
2. Licensed driver in good standing.
