Interprets oral communication into sign language and signed communication into spoken English.
Interprets at the appropriate language level to convey the content of the message clearly and accurately according to the receptive language level of the student.
Participates as a related service provider and member of the IEP team.
Understands and implements the student's IEP.
Clearly conveys all aspects of meaning and content making sure the goal of each lesson is clear.
Monitors student comprehension.
Makes appropriate use of fingerspelling.
Adheres to the rules of confidentiality required of all school personnel.
Reports student progress and concerns to the appropriate educational personnel.
Prepares for interpreting assignments by being familiar with the vocabulary and content knowledge of the subject matter.
Tutors students and make accommodations under the supervision of certified teachers.
Facilitates and supports participation and social communication throughout the school day in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, recess, lunch, peer interactions, assemblies/programs, and emergency drills.
Works cooperatively with the special education teacher and the general education teacher.
Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, an state and federal rules and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Regional School principal
Must have a permit issued by the Alabama Board of Interpreters and Transliterators which includes a passing score on a written test (JSU) and a passing score on the Performance Test: MS QA Level 3, FL QA Level 3 or EIPA Level 3.0 or higher or a license issued by the Alabama Board of Interpreters and Transliterators which includes RID Certification (CI, CT, NIC), EIPA Level 4.0 or higher), passing score on RID written exam, and a current RID Membership.
