An ESF Site Director is responsible for the direct care and supervision of all Team members and campers, customer service for campers and their families, development and evaluation of Leadership Team members and Nurses, and the overall success of ESF Summer Camps. The Site Director is also responsible for working with Talent Acquisition and Development (TAD) to execute all staff hiring and retention processes to staff and train our summer camp.

Throughout the year, the Site Director role changes to incorporate different responsibilities to prepare for the start of camp each summer. During this time, the Site Director will participate in community events, recruitment of families and team members, interview and training days, retention of staff, communications and marketing. Time is scheduled with each Site Director to ensure his/her “out of camp” time is meaningful and productive. The Site Director role in the summer is a full time, Monday – Friday position for 5-10 weeks, depending upon camp location.

Locations: ESF Summer Camps operate in the following locations: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, and Maryland.

  • Maintain relationship and facility management with site school
  • Manage site budget
  • Point of contact for all medical issues, i.e. medical conditions, special needs, emergencies
  • Ensure compliance with county and state youth camp licensing
  • Provide oversight to Site Director regarding camp logistics, special events, field trips and special guests
  • Be a presence in carline
  • Conduct weekly Team meetings & daily briefings with Leadership Team (am & pm)

  • Experience Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children in a leadership or administrative capacity (required)
  • Staff supervision experience (required)
  • 5 - 6 years administrative/leadership/educational experience (preferred)
  • Experience with group facilitation skills and public speaking (preferred)
  • Experience in coaching and development of staff and delivery of employee evaluations (preferred)


  • Certification Requirements:

  • Teaching certification (preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required)


  • Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Educational or Organizational Leadership degree (preferred)
  • Master’s degree (preferred)


  • Other Skill Requirements:

  • Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and email


  • Reporting Relationships:

  • Site Director reports directly to Michael and Bill Rouse. Reporting relationship include; direct accountability to Michael and Bill regarding matters related to Team members and partnership with the Camp Business Partner regarding staffing and employee relations. May also take direction from the Senior Director of Operational Excellence.


  • Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • 50 - 52 hours per week during weeks that camp is in session
  • Work non-standard hours and occasional weekends
  • Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35lbs
  • Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs
  • Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
