The successful social event sales manager will execute the sales plan for assigned market segments, and effectively lead the efforts of the sales team for assigned market segments.

Essential Functions:

Sales
  • Assists in the development of a detailed sales and marketing plan based on analysis of assigned market segment(s)
  • Focuses sales effort on potential high yield prospects and customers. Prepares a development plan for each of these targeted accounts
  • Executes the sales plan using effective sales techniques
Ÿ Lead generation: Networks through current customers, some telemarketing, attending trade shows and business functions; asks for referrals, establishes relationships/membership with association/business organizations (e.g. Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau)
Ÿ Account development: Builds business within existing and new customers/clients
Ÿ Proposal preparation: Identifies customer needs and uses in-depth product knowledge to prepare proposals to effectively meet those needs
Ÿ Presentations: Convincingly presents proposals, both written and oral, in face-to-face meetings and over the phone
Ÿ Closes sales: Successfully converts potential prospects and existing customers from face-to-face sales calls using effective closing techniques; handles objections and solves customer problems

· Leverages knowledge learned in one account into other accounts in same sub-segments
· Builds relationship with targeted accounts/customers and market segment/territory leaders
Sales Team Leadership
· Shares comprehensive knowledge of customer and market segment needs with sales team members
· Participates in the selection of new sales team members
· Coaches, trains, and motivates sales team members
· Monitors and tracks sales team members’ activities/performance
· Provides the Director of Sales with input for the annual performance reviews of sales team members

Customer Service
· Ensures prompt response by sales team members to customer inquiries
· Communicates complete and accurate product details through team members to the F&B and Operations Departments to ensure proper execution of product promised
· Follows up with customer within 24 hours after the cruise to further develop account and to:
- Thank customer - Discuss other events
- Obtain cruise feedback - Set up next meeting
- Rebook for next year - Get referrals
· Works with Director of Sales to resolve all customer issues

Administrative
· Uses EBMS to effectively plan and manage the attack within the assigned market segment(s) and to track productivity of sales activities
· Uses EBMS to accurately book cruises
· Maintains good organizational skills through time management, setting priorities, and accurate paperwork
· Directs and assists sales team members to collect payments and keeps abreast of accounts receivable

Accountabilities:
The successful social event sales manager will attain personal selling goals, will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience, will be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and will be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties. Performance will be measured by internal and external customer satisfaction, management evaluation, and feedback from peers on the city’s team.

Job Specifications / qualifications:

· Minimum of 4 years of total sales experience consisting of at least 3 years of hands on experience in proactive face-to-face selling
· Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the work of the position OR equivalent experience.
· Successfully sell proactively face-to-face and by telephone
· Execute a detailed sales plan
· Communicate effectively in oral and written form
· Develop and maintain key sales accounts
· Analyze and solve problems
· Identify customer needs and use in-depth product knowledge to prepare sales proposals
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by job responsibility
· Delegate effectively
· Persuade and influence people
· Manage client relationships
· Listen effectively, assesses the situation, determine relevant issues, identify solutions and gain consensus
· Set aside emotional factors and/or validate them in order to discover key/relevant issues
· Work with Microsoft Office applications (especially Word & Excel) and sales prospecting software
· Successful background check outcome required
