Social Insurance Specialists (Technical Experts) develop and adjudicate claims and post entitlement workloads including the most complex claims and post entitlement issues for the full range of SSA programs. This position provides a focal point for ensuring high quality case processing through consultation and technical mentoring of other employees.

TYPE OF POSITION
: This position is being filled on a full-time basis (40 hours per week), temporary NTE 1 year, may be extended.

Social Insurance Specialists (Technical Experts) serve as technical experts responsible for developing and adjudicating the most complex, non-
routine Title II and/or Title XVI
cases and on public fraud issues in specific claims and post-entitlement cases; provides lead role in technical training and mentoring other employees; provides technical expertise on the most effective use of software/systems to process specific complex claims and post-entitlement actions.
Must be met by the closing date of this announcement:
Fifty-two weeks of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include developing, examining, investigating or authorizing of claims under a program for SSA benefits, health insurance, pension plan, income maintenance or related programs or experience which provided a broad knowledge of the subject area of the position to be filled. Knowledge of post entitlement process and of continuing disability review process is required. Experience in Title II and/or Title XVI is required. Candidates must describe their Title II and/or Title XVI experience.
Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period, you will be credited with 6 months of experience).
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT

: Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-11 or higher.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicants must be eligible under ICTAP.

Meet and Deal Panel Interview:
Applicants will be required to participate in a panel interview (after basic eligibility determination) to demonstrate an aptitude for meeting and dealing with the public. Applicants must pass this interview process in order to be found fully qualified for this position and receive further consideration for selection. This interview will cover typical situations, which might be encountered on the job, in person or over the telephone. Candidates must demonstrate qualities such as clarity of speech, ability to listen, ability to establish confidence and put others at ease and the ability to organize and express thoughts clearly. If you do not pass the Meet and Deal panel interview, you will not qualify for the job.
