The Social Media Editor will create and implement an innovative social media strategy that positions WNYC as a leader in the social space and supports WNYC’s goals for content, engagement and growth across multiple social platforms.

In addition to leading WNYC’s social media presence, the Social Media Editor will work to build audience, increase loyalty and drive engagement with WNYC’s content. S/he will coordinate social activity with the WNYC newsroom and WNYC-produced local and national shows, WQXR and The Greene Space to magnify WNYC’s social profile and those of other NYPR brands and personalities and will share best practices with other NYPR brands and work.

The Social Media Editor is responsible for delivering content that is viable, sustainable and meets the mission and goals of WNYC and the promise to readers and listeners. S/he will be part of the effort to make WNYC’s digital content a necessary and transformative daily experience as part of the most inclusive gathering place in news media.

Responsibilities:
Create and implement an innovative social media strategy that will position WNYC as an industry leader
Craft and manage WNYC social media presence across multiple platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr, with a focus on engaging and growing new audiences and encouraging dialogue amongst the social community.
Create a fresh, distinctive and appropriate voice for WNYC’s various social media properties.
Lead WNYC’s social programming in breaking news situations.
Work collaboratively with WNYC producers and editors to produce successful crowdsourcing initiatives.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and the competitive landscape, including social media news trends, design, content, user interface, information architecture of public broadcasting and other media and news and information Web sites.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
Demonstrated success in managing the social media presence of an organization across multiple social platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.
Superior writing and editing skills.
5 years print or online Journalism experience, impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment required.
Familiarity with tools for measuring digital metrics, required.
Strong web production skills: including HTML and familiarity with digital content management systems, required.
Familiarity with Internet production software, including Photoshop, required.
Ability to develop a comprehensive vision and lead others toward it, required.
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and concepts as necessary, preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills, required.
Proven ability to meet deadlines, ability to pay attention to detail, required.
Ability to manage several projects concurrently, required.

Affinity for New York Public Radio; WNYC and/or WQXR content and mission a plus
Compliance with WNYC/WQXR policies and guidelines
Ability to work extended hours as needed
