Murdoch Developmental Center is a state residential facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities, located in Butner, North Carolina, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive, and functional abilities. To e considered for employment, applicants must be in good standing with the North Carolina Personnel Health Care Registry.

Position is responsible for the provision of social work services for Royall Cottage; a 48 bed co-ed non-ambulatory severe/profound Intellectual Developmental Disability Program. This position will be administratively responsible to the Division Director with professional supervision provided through Murdoch's Social Work Department. Position will render direct services through personal contact between the social worker and the client/family. Indirect services will include the completion of psychosocial evaluations and documentation of client progress. The Social Worker will also assist with related duties concerning individuals and divisional needs as assigned by the Division Director. The Social Worker is a vital member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Social Workers work directly with clients/guardians, professionals from other disciplines and paraprofessionals employed by Murdoch Center. Position will maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and other service providers. Required work schedule is 8:00 am–5:00 pm. Monday – Friday.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Working knowledge of social work principles, theory based methods, policy, techniques, trends and literature of social work with particular reference to mental and emotional disturbances, developmental disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. Strong writing skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills required.Management prefer experience working in a residential facility.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience."
