TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Temporary Exempt, as needed. Temporary Exempt, as needed employees are limited to working a maximum of 1,040 hours within a fiscal year. Exempt appointees are considered AT WILL and serve at the pleasure of the appointing officer. In order to be considered for a permanent appointment, incumbents are required to successfully compete in a Civil Service Examination.
The current openings are for Class 2910 Social Workers in the City and County of San Francisco, Human Services Agency, Child Protection Center located at SF General Hospital, 995 Potrero Ave. The Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The As-Needed Social Workers work on an on-call basis and may be assigned to any shift including holidays, overnights and weekends. Duties include: obtaining medical clearances for children and adolescents who may be runaways, or have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned; supervising and caring for children and adolescents in a shelter setting; transporting children to appropriate homes after medical clearance; preparing necessary documents, records and correspondence after each placement; and general care for infants, children and adolescent in the shelter facility.
Working Conditions : All positions require driving City vehicles, walking up stairs, bending, stooping, and the lifting, and carrying of small children, car seats, and/or other items weighing up to 30 pounds.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with 24 semester/36 quarter units in
Social Welfare, Psychology, Ethnic Studies or other behavioral sciences; OR
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of social work experience; OR
3. Completion of 60 semester/90 quarter units from an accredited college or university including at
least 24 semester/36 quarter units in the behavioral sciences, AND two years of experience as an eligibility worker or social services technician; OR
4. Completion of 60 semester/90 quarter units from an accredited college or university including
at least 24 semester/36 quarter units in the behavioral sciences, AND 2 years of social work experience.
5 . Possession of a current California Class 3C driver's license, a good driving record.and the
willingnesss and ability to drive throughout Northern California.
NOTE: All social work experience must be equivalent to the level of Class 2910 Social Worker in the
City and County of San Francisco.
